2018 Class Size: On Monday, Texas landed their 18th commit of the 2018 class in OT Rafiti Ghirmai. I expect this class to have no more than 25 signees on NSD. I think a number around 22-24 is more likely. So here’s how I see things playing out.

    * Done at QB with Casey Thompson and Cam Rising. If anything were to happen here look for Texas to go after Justin Fields.

    * Done at RB with Keaontay Ingram

    * One more WR to go along with Brennan Eagles, Al’Vonte Woodard, and Rondale Moore. The staff wants Waddle.

    * Done at TE with Dominick Wood-Anderson and Malcolm Epps unless Mustapha Muhammad wants in then you make room.

    * Two more OL to go along with Reese Moore and Rafiti Ghirmai.

    * Two or three more DL to go along with Keondre Coburn. The prize here would be Tre Bobby Brown or Ronnie Perkins (more on Perkins below)

    * Likely done at LB with Ayodele Adeoye, Byron Hobbs and DeMarvion Overshown.

    * One or two more DB spots to go with Jalen Green, Caden Sterns, and BJ Foster. – (Andrew)

WR may be the be best stocked position on the team. We already have 3 commits. Why not go after a second RB? With our current group so injury prone this could be a good insurance policy.

    Higs' view

    The Numbers Game:

There is no set number of commitments Texas takes in 2018. They could end up with 25 or be done at 22. It all depends on who they can get to pull the trigger the rest of the way. How can they get to 25? Three more defensive linemen put the class at 21. If you take one more wide receiver and a tight end you are at 23. Throw in a cornerback, and you are looking 24 dead in the eye with one remaining position for the best available. Can they get three more DL? Is it more realistic to see two more DL and then they take two more WR’s? With 12 WR’s on the roster and only two seniors you only need to replace two and Texas already has verbal commitments from three with Eagles, Woodard, and Moore. Adding another TE to the group would be a better option than taking two more WR’s.

I hope we save one spot for CB Cook in case he comes our way. I actually think its a good possibility if we have a season that shows good promise for the future.

Sounds like Keaontay Ingram already knows of a couple more silent commits --

"I'm pretty solid," Ingram said with a smile. "I feel like it's the right fit for me. I didn't commit for no reason. I'm solid right now. I feel like our class is really good. We might end up with the No. 1 class. We've got a couple more guys coming. I'm really excited about our class."

I would bet the number is closer to 20 than 25.

If he is coming here this weekend, he's leaving a Longhorn. No doubt about it.

Finishing Offensive Line Class: Texas currently has Rafiti Ghirmai and Reese Moore as their two offensive line commits. Speaking to sources on the Texas side, they’d ideally like to finish this class with two additional linemen, preferably LSU commit, Cameron Wire (Gonzales, LA) and Junior Angilau (Salt Lake City, UT).

Both prospects are expected to take official visits to Texas. As you know, Cameron Wire made a trip to Austin this past summer.

More on Wire: Wire let me know that while he does plan on taking a official visit to Texas, he says he will not come till after his season is over. Although Wire has mentioned other schools he did make it clear to me that outside of LSU, Texas is really the primary school in the running for his services. – (Super K)
