No real reason for this other than just boredom. Missing from this is Joyner Holmes (#24), a soph. who is near the top of the main stats for last season. The 6-3 G/F is set to return after the end of the fall semester. I believe the first game she would be able to play in would be in the first conference game vs OU on Dec. 28. We got a nice blend of experience and newbies. Varied skills will allow for numerous combinations as needed: small, big, combo. It seems that this season we will have more effective 3pt shooters than just Brooke. While Ariel is a solid 3pt shooter (37.7% last season), that is not her strength. Brooke took 102 more threes than Ariel who had the second highest number of threes on the team (77). Destiny and Chasity should provide more shooters from BTA that not hesitate to put it up. Alecia should also be a better shooter from BTA. Horns will be facing some solid competition before the start of conference play. Highlights of the out of conference schedule are: LSU and Washington (at Las Vegas), La. Tech and Florida State at home and Georgia and Tennessee on the road. UConn will not come to Austin until after conference play has started. The first three games, all at home, should provide the Horns with a good opportunity to integrate the newcomers and get a better idea of who will take over the two starting spots in question. I figure that Brooke, Ariel and Jatarie will be starters with only two spots up for grabs although there should be plenty of playing time as only Brooke averaged more than 27 mpg at 33.8 mpg. I kinda expect that Alecia will lock one of those two spots with both her and Brooke sharing time at the PG & SG spots when both are on the floor. Right now, my starting five is: Brooke, Ariel, Jatarie, Alecia and Audrey-Ann, who will provide rebounding and interior defense to complement Jatarie. BabHorn, your posts are always well thought out and interesting. Who, among the freshmen, do you think might move on to the starting five this season, if any? I'm thinking Destiny may displace LaShann as the sixth man off the bench. I don't know if Chasity can move ahead of Brooke or Alecia but I'll bet she gets a lot of playing time. Rellah is a wild card. Coach's head must be spinning with all the different combinations of talent she can put on the floor.
If Joyner was playing this fall, I would expect all of the frosh to come off the bench. I don't expect either of the two guards to crack the staring five. Too much talent and experience in front of them. Rellah has a shot if the others in front of her at the PF spot (Khaléann, Audrey-Ann, Jordan, Jada) come up lacking in something (shooting, rebounding, defense). I do expect all of the frosh to get close to or double digit minutes per game, some more than others. Rellah probably has a better chance to get more minutes during the fall. We will see what happens once Joyner comes back.
