    1. He's leaving out some pretty important info: NU and A&M were also the "demanders" of unequal revenue distribution in the 1994-95 talks. So if it's Texas' fault that they made "demands," then I'm not sure why he's not holding NU accountable... oh yeah... because he misses the rivalry game with them. :rolleyes1:

    2. The Big 8 became markedly better when it added the SWC teams. I don't think anyone doubts that the SWC was failing. But to imply that they were benevolent givers who received little in return for helping out their poor friends to the south is a load of *********. The Big 12 pretty much achieved pinnacle status early, on par with the Big 10, PAC, and SEC. The Big 8 would not have done that alone.

    3. COLORADO IS NOT NOR HAS EVER BEEN A PREEMINENT BRAND. They were a flash-in-the-pan with McCartney and have never been "great" beyond a couple years. Colorado owed a lot of their revenue successes to the benefits of being in a conference with Texas.

    4. I'm not sure where he's getting at with us ruining the conference twice. If he's talking about how LHN scared off CU, NU, MU, and A&M, then whatever. We all see now that LHN is pretty much a "nothing" tool in terms of affecting the competitive recruiting field. If anything, our ****** play in the major sports is what's helping keep the conference's image down, not our greediness. If CU had stayed in the conference, they'd still be as mediocre as they ever were.

Without a doubt. Of course he doesn't remember much of that game due to a head injury.

He has done several Texas games the last few years or so. I always thought he was positive in his analysis etc. Surprised by this.

I'll also say this: he's usually spot-on in his predictions and analysis when he's on radio shows and what-not. One of the visionary things that he tries to get out there a lot is that college football should just split from the NCAA and form their own power conference system will promotion/relegation, TV contracts, and their own commissioner and pay/merit system for players. Which I think will happen after the next round of TV renegs. At least I hope it happens.

But his implication that we "ruined" the SWC (I'd argue it was because of mediocre play during McWilliams/Mackovic years and the cheating at A&M, TCU, SMU, UH, etc.) is kind of uninformed. Maybe he didn't think this was going to make a newspaper or something.

Texas' desire to keep the Longhorn Network made a B12 Network not viable. The B1G, SEC and Pac12 Networks are bringing tons of money into the coffers of all member schools. The lack of a real B12 Network was catalyst for the undoing of the B12.

Kansas would not give up the Jayhawk network either so there goes that theory. If I recall correctly the Big 12 schools received as much as the other schools last year so there goes that argument.

The PAC-12 Network is just a group of regional networks which is what Texas proposed first and aggy turned down twice.

Fact is every D1 school in the country except ND (who has NBC for football) would give anything for their own netwotk.

And didn't A&M turn us down partly because they felt it would not make enough money and was a waste of time? Then when we got our own network and the huge deal they went crying to the SEC like witty babies talking about big, bad, greedy Texas making all the Big XII money? or something like that?

Missouri started trying to leave before the LHN existed, which caused Nebraska to panic and be like "oh no you don't, we're taking that Big 10 spot first!"

    Lots of revisionist history.

it's rare that partnerships dissolve where the big producer/rainmaker in the room is completely innocent. but I believe in the lion's share, and it's rare that the other people think the guy with the lion's share played nice. it's how that works time and time again.

we get $15m for the LHN. OU gets $7m for their 3rd tier contract. UT is a bigger brand and produces 32% more revenue than OU, and we're both head and shoulders above the rest of the conference related to revenue. In the media world, there's a reason why huge corporate conglomerates (with great business minds and analysts) are giving UT $15m and OU $7m.

B12 divided out huge money to every school this year. 5 of the 10 schools claim they don't even make money/profits/surplus in their athletics department.

IMO, Nebraska had a point. they were a big player and didn't feel they were getting the lion's share. in addition, Nebraska and aTm were the two that voted against sharing the media revenues more equitably, not Texas. so when it came time to muscle the smaller schools on the shared media rights, Texas was a good guy, and Neb/aTm were the bullies.

I'm sure the LHN was one of the factors. But that doesn't make it THE factor and doesn't make it the wrong thing to do.

No, more Joel Klatt and the Colorado Buffaloes got destroyed by Drew Nelson and the rest of the Texas defense.

I admit I am none too happy with our current conference situation.
Looking back, I do wish we had smarter/wiser people negotiating for us.
