At about the 4:30 mark he again tries to justify the unjustifiable.

His explanation reminds me of Tom Smykowski trying to explain "what would you say you DO here?"...

if 6 carries is insanity, it's because it's insane to think 6 carries is enough data to make that judgment. how many carries did Warren have at halftime?

More and more he is coming off as very thin skinned regarding anyone that dare question the offense. His responses were quite passive aggressive. It's like he refuses to answer the question even though he knows it's a legitimate one.

The response to the question about the number of carries Warren is getting was....interesting. Referring the reporter to the number of carries Warren had against San Jose State basically made the reporter's point.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but 3.8 ypc against USC seems pretty damn good to me. You can wear a defense down over time that way. See Jamaal Charles versus Nebraska for proof.

By TH's logic, since he goes for it on 4th anywhere outside of our own 10, 2.5 per carry gets you a 1st down.

    By his logic.

Edit: That's Tom Herman, not Tom Smykowski.

After seeing the clip posted by @Joe Fan of an Ehlinger sack on another thread where Warren totally whiffed and didn't block anyone, I think I am going to start giving Herman more benefit of the doubt. Not that he gives a crap LOL. Maybe he knows more than all of us.

    Uphauling thought, I know.

We just saw the definition of equivocation. And I agree with the passive aggressive assessment.

If he would let him run the ball he wouldn't have to block. That's like benching Deion sanders because he didn't tackle

If Chris Warren were anywhere close to the caliber of Deion Sanders, your point would be valid. He's good. He ain't that good.

The Longhorn spotlight is very bright. Charlie couldn't handle it and I don't like the way Herman is handling it now. Yes, he does appear to be a bit thin skinned. Insanity would be continually giving the ball to a running back averaging 1.0 yard per carry. I'll go with the "3.8 yards and a cloud of dust" offense. By my math, 3.8 yards three times in a row gives you a first down. First downs turn into touchdowns. Touchdowns turn into wins. I like Herman but I'm beginning to think college football coaches are nothing more than glorified PE teachers.

Most everybody went into this game with almost no expectations to win or even be close. Somehow we almost won that game and you have to credit the coaching staff for getting the team ready, especially the defense. I question the lack of running attempts, especially at key moments which would have won that game. With a freshman QB, I can live with some freshman mistakes. One hope going forward is that they can play with this intensity more often than not. There was zero intensity vs Maryland and was better vs SJS.

it's ok dude. it doesn't have to be an exact parallel to be a valid point. it's simply a well-known example of a player that was great at one aspect of his job, bad at another aspect, and able to a difference.

Yes - and I agree to an extent. I think four was ridiculous, but by the same token, he was also getting hit in the backfield pretty consistently (not his fault) and clearly the o-line was having issues. The fact that his average was that high was actually pretty surprising.

OCs get wrapped up in matchups and in this case, I think they felt like CW wasn't going to consistently run over USC defenders, and that's what he would have to do in order to be successful. My suspicion is that IN GENERAL they were right about that. My main issue with them was more about what happened inside the 10. That's where you have to give him a shot.

I don't think that CW is a guy that's so good that he HAS to get 15-20 touches every game no matter who you're playing or how they're playing you. I'm on board with someone like Jamaal Charles or even Ced Benson in that regard, but not sold on Warren to that degree. But if you think Elingher can push the pile, I have to think Warren can do that a little better!

You do know this statement is an insult to PE teachers everywhere!

I'll watch this video this evening when I'm mentally fatigued and likely to be indifferent to some of the rhetoric.

More importantly, not only the first downs and (hopefully) touchdowns, but you are continuing to burn clock. And the way the game went, it would have helped to keep the D off the field if the offense could have burned clock at 40 seconds per CW III touch...

Did a reporter ask why not kick a FG when your offense is so poor? And oh say likely have a 6 point lead not a 3 point lead near the end?

I sure hope Tom Herman starts winning some games so I can stomach his passive aggressive douchey demeanor during press conferences.

Some are, think about some of the bonehead quotes or antics you've seen and heard over the years. I've also known some HCs and assistants at the high school level, some would have a hard time making a living if the PE dept didn't exist. Some, are quite functional.

I honestly enjoy being around humble or normal-size ego people and cultivate relationships with them. However, that's not the sort of personality that's going to succeed as head coach at UT Austin. Tough, assertive, self confident, enormous ego ... those are positive traits in a head coach at this level.

I recall MB in the press conference early in his tenure here (3rd year, Stoops first?), after getting his *** handed to him something like 63-14 by OU, ... "Well, this is just one game on the schedule, the same as any other game..."

Something like that. And he had coached a year as OC for Switzer at OU in 1984, so he knew the Texas-OU game and all that it means.

For Texas, used to be circles on the calendar for Texas-OU and Texas-aggy. Now, just the Texas-OU (this year also maybe USC, last year ND).

For all of Texas' opponents, their Texas game was circled on the calendar.

Brown's comment (above) to a listening UT fan base seemed a bit condescending .

Watching the PC on LHN now. There HAS to be more to the story. Certainly the defensive answer that they did use him and he ONLY averaged 3.8 YPC has to be a smoke screen. Seriously, he is reputed to be a brilliant mind. Is he so mad at Warren he is willing to throw away basically 4 yards per carry? There has to be something he just doesn't;t really want to make public. he can't be THAT obtuse, can he?

My thought too. Something he didn't want to talk about and then struggled to give some kind of a response to the question he wasn't prepared for. I think TH will be really good here though. Saturday night's defensive performance alone was enough to make me giddy.
