For me I think it's obvious that Warren has durability concerns that cause hesitancy on the staff as far as using him more. The more pressing issue with the run game is the OL. Even Jerrod Heard is getting bottled up in ways that he did not in 2015, and that was with ******* Watson calling plays. If they had a better OL I'd really like to look into this more than I have, but at this point it's not relevant because I don't see Warren making that much of a difference. And it's not scheme either because there isn't a scheme out there that makes up for OL play that's going this badly.

Yeah it definitely didn't help that this crew had never heard of Defensive Pass Interference in their careers. Sad!

They had no issue calling holds on us like on the fake punt. Criminal almost and they apparently gave USC 4 TOs in the first half.

I respect Joel Klatt's analyses a whole lot (probably more than any color guy out there), but he still has a lot of resentment towards UT, so for him to continue to go to bat against those guys tells a lot.

Okay so what do you think about the non call on what appeared to be an obvious face mask on Ehlinger in the 4th? Some are pointing to the rule and that the hand didn't grasp the helmet. I say at real speed in real time there is no damn way the ref made that determination. Just a horrendously blown non call IMO.

Again just see Klatt's reaction. He thought off the bat it was a FM. Now the replay did show that he was just a frog's *** hair under it, but you're right: you need a replay to show you that. There's no ******* way anyone with vision worse than 20/10 sees that in real time.

If you read the rule I posted in the 4th timeout thread, the first part of the rule addresses your concern about not grabbing the facemask itself.

My only question to that instance is Sam considered a runner or passer at that point because he did end up throwing the ball. If he isn't considered a runner, then it was absolutely FM and totally missed by the refs. If not, then it is a moot point.

Yes they will be around. I'd prefer to see the majority of them confined to Texags and Shaggy.

My understanding of that rule is where the QB is relative to 1) the LOS and 2) the pass pocket (similar to the "you can't rough a rugby punter" rule). Regarding point 1, he's absolutely behind the LOS. No question. Regarding point 2, he's rather on the edge of the pocket but pretty much any ref would tell you that at the moment that he threw the ball, he was "in the pocket." Again, this is just my understanding, but if you meet both of those criteria then you're deemed a "passer" until either you cross the LOS, break the pocket, or the ball is well gone off your throwing hand. So he was in the pocket, behind the LOS, still had the ball. Sounds like a passer to me.

Several defenders showed up this past weekend, besides Elliott
It was the first time I can remember Wheeler making more than one play in a game
    Charles O. made some plays
    I thought MJ was great
    Poona showed up
    Hill was mostly good too

"....... While having Nickelson at LT will probably be scary for a lot of people, I bet that’s where he stays for now. In fall camp RS freshman JP Urquidez was the backup LT and now Florida Gator Jean Delance was running with the 3’s. It sounds like the staff has more confidence in Nickelson than throwing Urquidez out to the wolves as they start Big 12 play in under two weeks. Though if they do plan to get Urquidez some game reps, this is a really good time for a bye week.

But as of right now I expect the tackle duo to remain Tristan Nickelson and Denzel Okafor. – (Andrew) "

HP, have you ever considered adding a category for "Grading the Coaching Staff?" I'm actually serious, although it would be purely subjective. I'm thinking about play selection (how many runs versus passes), time management and aspects of a game such as going for a 4th down conversion at midfield (against Maryland, and a freshman QB) whether or not to kick an FG at certain times in the game, and the PAT versus 2-point attempt decision in OT.

Unless the metrics change depending on the opponent, then doesn't that limit their value somewhat? In other words, if U.S.C. scores 25 points on us, isn't that likely to be the result of a better defensive effort by the Horns than if Kansas scored 25 point on us? And, if we had scored 35 points on USC, wouldn't that likely be the result of a better offensive effort than if we had scored 35 points on Kansas?

Yes, which is why I'd rant and rave if the latter happened.

Apart from your rants, would your "grades" reflect the differences?

    i'm with slugga on this.

it's just a bunch of metrics. there are plenty of times a "great performance" doesn't match the box score and times when a "bad performance" doesn't match the box score. you don't throw out the box score or change the box score to make anyone feel better.

these metrics have been on here for a while. just take them for what they are.
