I keep hearing that after watching the 4th and 3 people understand why he didn't get carries. So was he asked to not block again? These excuses are unbelievable

If Warren is a blocking liability or if he can't read defenses...and he's not going to carry the ball, I don't understand why he is even in the game? The only way he can be an effective decoy relates to the extent to which the defense sees him as a threat. If he never runs the ball (definition: 4 times), I don't know how they can load the box for him, or why they would.

The decision not to have Warren run the ball 15-20 times has to be philosophical. Perhaps it's not about Warren. Beck apparently believed that pounding #25 in a very tight game was not the best strategy. In my judgment he was dead wrong and it may have cost us the game.

I'm old school, and I believe that there are simple truths in football. When you want to shorten the game against an offensive juggernaut, you run the ball. When your defense if playing light out but they need a break, you run the ball.

When you have a 250# beast in the backfield...and you want to shorten the game...and your defense is playing lights out but they need a break, you pound the ball. It's Football 101. Apparently Beck missed that course.

If someone mentioned this before, my apologies... If CW3 had an eye laceration then why did we throw to him later in the game? In the end zone no less. If you don't feed him the ball because of an eye laceration, why would you throw it to him downfield.

I'd have mentioned it earlier but had to watch the replay to verify

I thought the latest report was the eye injury was to Foreman rather than Warren?

Perhaps coach was confused. Not a crime.

I was "riding" home yesterday in the back of the jet and was able to watch part of the new "Rewind" on LHN "live"

Can someone tell coach the school colors are Burnt Orange and White? He had a black golf shirt with a small Burnt Orange Longhorn logo on the left breast. Really? If the case for game day/sideline is to make the coaches distinguishable for the players (hmmm) with various colored golf shirts ... OK ... (not really, but at least it's a tactical excuse)

But you're doing a recorded program for LHN broadcast ... and Tom, Charlie was more lively doing his 30th "Rewind" than you were, sir, in your 3rd. LHN's homer host is serving you softballs. I don't need a bow-noggined cheerleader as HC, but someone with a little passion leading the team might be appropriate. Stop looking at the desk in front of you ... there's a tally light on that camera ... and the guy next to you might appreciate more than 1.3' of eye-contact.

I was more excited about the future when Mack arrived than Tom ... and my knowledge of each in their first year is about the same. I was more excited about Charlie's first year knowing it was going to be really tough to win football games.

another thread talks about getting "giddy."

I'll be giddy about TH when he has a few conference championships and at least plays in the Nat'l Championship game. Winning championships will cover a lot of shortcomings in style ... but c'mon Tom ... you were here under Mack's best years. You saw Mack court HS coaches and the tradition of T-Ringers ... appealed to the fanbase, which pays your bodacious salary.

    step it up.

    My apologies for thread creep.

He seems to have picked up, and maybe it was his all along, Meyer's personality and how he deals with the media more than Mack. I prefer Mack to Meyer.

He said he will wear a black polo on the sideline for the contrasting color so he stands out. That decision is entirely tactical.

I liked DKR's white shirt and tie. And Tom Landry's sport coat, tie and hat. And Coach Bryant's sport coat, tie and hat. So I'm voting for the white shirt, burnt orange tie. DKR's classy look wouldn't bother me one bit.

    yes ... noted ...

but ... who here plays polo for crying out loud. It's a GOLF shirt here. Mercy.

Bunch of dang communists infiltrating what was once a juggernaut of a program.

... and he wasn't on the sidelines, Sangre. He was in a recording studio.

    AMEN!

I double ditto this remark! Good point, Cary!

Wow. I have no doubt that had we stuck with it, that defense would have been softened up by the 4th quarter. I bet USC really appreciated that we only ran him four times. They had to be holding their breath, wondering when / if TH was going to go back to that and totally relieved when we didn't.

    no he didn't.

it was an offense then and it still is ... an offense.

... perhaps the Offense should look like TTech, then, and the Defense can wear our time-tested ... honored (feared?) unis.

Every school in the country does something like this. I feel like SHAARK may be trolling because if he's not, this is the dumbest critique I've read on this board in a long time.

Nike makes branded merchandise in all kinds of colors. The black looks fine. It's not the uniform. Get over it.

you have a right to your 10K plus post opinion.

I find the "varied colors" in a setting allegedly promoting the program to be inappropriate. Who cares what Nike markets? In fact, I'd better appreciate a manufacturer keeping their logo inside the neck collar rather than being more predominant than the school's logo. But hey ... keep shilling for the corporation, that's who's bringing us all these wonderful side show circuses on game day.

Do you think anything on the LHN broadcast goes with coincidence ... or is it run by script with a planned setting? I'm not suggesting a production be without a plan. In fact, as an RTF graduate, such is necessary for a good production.

I think it's time for the HC to look like a head coach again. tennis visors look stupid. I was glad Stoopsie was a boomer. I'm more impressed by the fedora hat. But ... what's on our sideline now? A black shirt and a tennis visor from a guy who gives his pile driver 4 carries ... and according to some here, because he missed a block ... or had an cut eye lid.

Just dumbest in a long time Al

As you obviously have never played the game, nor coached at any level, as a member of the TEAM, a player has multiple assignments. Yes, Warren missed multiple blocks in the first three games, everyone that ever played whiffed on a block occasionally. The issue is his inability to read the defense and recognize his assignment. One of two reasons:

    1) "Not my job" - run his *** off

    2) Hasn't been coached to read and recognize defenses - DING, DING, DING - we have a winner!

With his size, strength, and quickness, Warren should be the best blocker on the team, as well as our most dynamic ball carrier. Right now, he appears to be a liability on pass plays and blitzes. Again, I blame the coaching staff, not the young man.

what's with all the negative vibes, man?

How can you possibly know I've never played nor coached the game from my comment about Warren's missed block on the linked play above? Did I fail to sufficiently agree with the analysis he missed his block or what?

besides, have you ever heard I've considered myself one of the elite scheme/strategy minds?

I parrot what I've seen works the best ... fundamental football ... demonstrated by DKRs teams ... Bear's teams ... not John Jenkins or "The Pirate"

FYI ... I played HS ball all 4 years, lettered the last two ... because they needed me, not because I was good. TE and DE. 6'/150#/5.2 40/210 Bench ... impressive, huh? We were mostly a bunch of small white boys, but we could think and learn fundamentals. I DID have the privilege to have been under a single AD/HC until my senior year. The coach who was "run off" was simply outstanding but wasn't part of the "in" crowd. My HS enjoyed great success on the gridiron during his tenure, but we could never beat a particular team east of IH 35 in our district. 3 of 4 years we lost to them in the quarter finals. They had players with fans who yelled things like "get 'em, Daddy"

But you're right ... it's inconceivable I'd have anything constructive to offer WRT Xs/Os.

    smh.

I am sympathetic to this position. It was last year or the year before that I posted on here about nike's proliferation of grey as a primary color on jerseys and team shirts/polos. I hate it.

However, I find black, as it relates to UT colors, to be acceptable. Our colors are burnt orange & white, but we have many logos/versions of bevo that have black in them. My favorite logo has lots of black in it.

I think most schools, who have two colors, use black as an unofficial 3rd color. I just don't like 4th and 5th colors. I'm totally good with black shirts with burnt orange and white logos.

that's the problem. using it as an accent/outline is one thing ... replacing it on the outerwear (jersey, shirt, shorts, pants, whatever) ... that's a deviation.

I know lots of people have 'em ... the logo on other than shirts. Just know it's a deviation. "own your deviation"

Anyhow ... Chris Warren's participation needs to increase ... badly. We have a grinder the next couple of games and we're not going to win if we can't run the ball effectively. Perhaps we can out athlete Kansas (though that's hardly a guarantee) ... but KSU, oU, OSU ... gonna need to play ball. Warren is the guy who can fill the gap from our 2K yard rusher last year.
