https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tom-petty-legendary-rocker-is-dead-at-66/ I'm a big fan of Tom Petty. My favorite song of his:
RIP Tom Petty... probably as good a time as any to move on from this F'd up place... I saw you live twice bud; once in 32 degree weather at the outdoor amphitheater in Dallas formerly known as Starplex. I remember how cold it was and how he gave us all props for hanging with him. He was playing under the roof and we were on the lawn. He had a heater going so his fingers were good. I first heard "I Need To Know" in a record/stereo place in Laredo; the name of the place escapes me but it had one of those sound rooms with state of the art equipment. It blew me away. I think I bought the album You're Gonna' Get It that day... from that album and one of my all-time favorites; a deep cut and just a perfect example of his cool...
I was guitarist in a local cover band right out of high school. We used to do “I Need to Know” and “Listen to Her heart” in our set. Loved those tunes and so many other Tom Petty classics.
I was driving back from an early lunch and on KLBJ they played "A Woman In Love (It's Not Me)" on the radio. I literally started choking up. This is another song that was huge in my life, specifically because of the possibly two greatest lines in rock music history about what a man see's beyond lust in the perfect woman: "She could understand a problem She let the little things go" So true...
I owe my Tom Petty appreciation to my son in law. He introduced me to his music and I came to be a big fan. Funny how much I have come to appreciate some rockers that I ignored in my youth, like Petty. Neal Young is another. Man we're losing so many now.
