Maybe its just me, but I'm starting to get the feeling that someone has tapped Kasich as the moderates answer to a DT second term. He seems to be punching way above his weight right now on the weekend shows. They have him on some segment almost every weekend now. And since he's running as the anti-DT, the shows are giving him softballs to hit.

He would be a disaster. He's already thrown in the towel on almost every conservative value issue.

Someone needs to step up lest the Republican party members cedes the kit and kaboodle to Trumpists and all the ramifications that denotes.

Kasich is positioned as a moderate, but the guy was the chief architect be of the budget surpluses of the late '90s, which were accomplished in the wake of tax relief, restraining spending, entitlement reform, and boosting defense spending. (In other words, his record is mostly conservative, not moderate.) His record reinforces fiscal conservatism better than anything else does, and he has more credibility on fiscal matters than literally any human being in the United States. The GOP should do what it can to incorporate Kasich into its team.

Hes one of the few tried and true fiscal conservatives left. Most responsible person for the balanced budgets of the 1990s. I think hes fantastic and would vote for him over DT in a heartbeat. I don’t consider myself a moderate by a long shot.

I'm not willing to trade fiscal policy for cultural inaction. It's one of the major problems I have with Straus as well. His bona fides as a fiscal conservative aren't sufficient for me given his complete acquiescence on all the primary cultural issues.

Fiscal issues can be dealt with today, tomorrow or next decade. We are at the precipice of a cultural shift that will make fiscal conservancy impossible in the future. If immigration is not brought under control immediately the democratic party will start winning. Most new immigrants are going to be urban dwellers. We know that demographically these people are much more likely to democrats and this will eventually be enough to turn red states blue (eg. Texas) Once these states are blue or even moderately competitive, trying to be fiscally conservative will dang near impossible.

Kasich is fiscal conservative and personally a social conservative but doesn't feel his social values need to be everyone else values. This was on display during the election when he stated his disagrees with gay marriage for his family but would have no problem attending a gay wedding for friends.

Recognizing you didn't vote for Trump, Kasich was by far the most fiscal conservative on the Republican ticket. If you're looking for someone that matches your social values, that R candidate hasn't stepped forward yet. With that said maybe Trump is your candidate. He may not believe or support those social values but for political expediency he'll gladly push them as policy.
