How to Best Experience Game Day in Austin

    Hey Guys,
I'm headed in for the F1 weekend and it looks like I'll be able to squeeze in the game on Saturday. Looking for a little advice on the traditions and what to look out for. I'll likely try to scalp a ticket (two total) gonna bring my fiance along. We visited Austin April 2017 and were blown away with the city. As an avid sports fan, a game at Texas Memorial is a bucket list moment. I'd sure love to see your Longhorns take out OSU.

Any friendly advice or something you would recommend, I'd love to hear it.

    Things I'm interested in:
    -Tailgate traditions
    - where to sit in the stadium (out of direct sun)
-best place to scalp cheap tickets
    -best stadium food
-things to see in the stadium

    Hook 'em

    Welcome to Hornfans.
OSU kickoff is at 11 am so you can get an early start as gates and festivities at DKR start 3 hours early so 8 am. Look at Texassports.com for Gameday info
    - 11am is sun most of game so bring the sunscreen
    - Plenty of tailgate spots on north and east side of DKR. Several people here will give you an invite to theirs.
    - You can but tix online at Texas sports.com, ticketcity and get in hand. Buy a tix and I suggest westside.
    - Lots of food options inside DKR especially on North end Fan Zone
Come early and enjoy the atmosphere, there is plenty to see outside of DKR, inside in the Fan Zones and enjoy the game!

-Scholz Garten and around there is great before a game.

-sections 3, 4, 5, 6 in the upper rows are best for shade. just look at an interactive map of the stadium.

Team will arrive north side around 9 am. I do not expect a huge crowd because is 9 am and well, our fans just don't do the early arrival for an 11am game well. But you'll see me there. Hookem :hookem2:

I suggest be in your seat 30 minutes prior to kickoff so you can see the band come into stadium. It is a thrilling experience and then the team will follow later.

What are the food options in the North End Zone?

Bad and worse, which is exceeded only by blaring their commercials during the game.

Only good food in the stadium is in the clubs, which is also the only place to get anything stronger than beer.

You would probably enjoy Scholtz's and then walking around the area along San Jacinto and 17th & 18th before moving on to the tailgate area east of Memorial Stadium.

Define "cheap tickets". Best option is this board, Ticket City, or chance outside the stadium. Section 103-107, rows above 45 will likely be in the shade all game. I have had my seats for 47 years, and the only way they are in the sun, is if the upper deck collapses. I don't know the family situation yet, but I may have a couple available.

Bad and worse is right. I knew the answer when I asked the question.
I don't know what the rest of the stadium offers because I don't get to far from my seats in the lower end zone.
    Basically there is:
    Torchys Taco's
    Subway
    GiGi's Cupcakes
    Gattis Pizza
    Starbuck's
Amy's Ice Cream Cart and a Corn Dog Cart

As stated earlier I would get dropped off early at Scholz Garten and start there. I think they open at
7 a.m for this weeks game.

Ditto. The pregame show by the band is a must see for first timers.

Wow, you guys are great! Thank you all, I'm looking forward to it.

I have normally had good luck scalping at an event like this, is there a designated spot they hang out? south of the stadium? west of the stadium?

It's not that I want to buy from a scalper it's just that I like to compete with them knowing fans rather sell to fans than to someone who is going to turn around and sell the ticket for double. Hopefully, I can get a couple seats before the band comes in.

Check the Swap Meet board on this site before hitting up the street hawkers.

TicketCity has a tailgate near 18th & San Jacinto. Ask for Ryan Girton. He has guys working for him in various spots, but he will be fair. I've used Ryan for concerts, bowl games, other sporting events, never been disappointed; plus they have a good bar at their tailgate.

The lot on 18th and San Jacinto is now $25 first come first serve parking. A number of those tailgates are now in the 17th and Congress area.

I have not paid attention to where Ticketcity might have relocated to.

Watch your time. Texas' games last 3 1/2 to 4 hours (or longer). Qualifying starts at 4.

    That's okay. I lived in Austin 1973-1989.

Traffic moved fine then. Hasn't changed too much has it?

    Turn sarcasm meters to 12.

    seb,

Thanks. I park either on San Jacinto or in San Jacinto garage. Rarely South of Memorial Stadium unless a certain lady goes with me. She likes to park in the Brazos Garage.

What happens in Brazos garage, stays in Brazos garage. Very important. :hookem:

How do you get access to the clubs? I purchased decent tickets, Gate 6, Section 5) but not familiar with how to get in. Definitely want something OTHER than beer options.

I'm sorry, but the most accessible clubs with the largest memberships are outside the stadium.

The clubs inside the stadium require a ticket for a seat in that club to gain access. Other than that, wear your cowboy boots and put a flask in them.

Also, be aware of the clear bag policy.

I just opened an email that said the ticket office has tickets available in The Terrace Club. Food is free with a cash bar.
