I believe Sumlin is on his way to a contract extension

Sumlin won't be the first coach to be fired after posting a decent record.

Nebraska fired Frank Solich, the man who replaced the legend Tom Osborne, after a 9-3 season and a 58-19 overall record after 6 seasons. They haven't been worth a damn since then. They've been through 4 coaches so far and a fifth one is probably on the way.

Jimbo already makes 5.25 million. aggy is gonna have to go all in on this one. aggy is determined to get that MNC (a real one this time). I suppose you have to grudgingly admire them for that.

aggy and techsters are both delusional. Tech fired their best coach ever because they thought they had national prominence and should be competing for NC's. The same for aggy. They are no different than Miss St., occasionally a couple of good years and a major bowl, but mediocre overall. But don't try to convince them otherwise.

I guess it's possible Jimbo could go to aggy, but why? Tallahasse is better than collij stayshun any day and he's already at a much more prominent program, but let the delusion continue.

What aggy doesn't understand is that they have to win the $EC West first, and who knows when that will be.

I was at neighbors' backyard party last week, they are mostly people 4-5 years out of college, and two of the ags there told me they wished they had just stayed in the B12. But they told me not to tell anyone. So dont tell anyone.

I used to make fun of aggy, but my faith in our own fanbase was permanently shattered when post after post on every board in December of 2013 insisted that “just anyone” could come in and do a better job than Mack Brown because we have “Texas” on our jeseys.

If Herman wins 5 natties in a row, then has three 8-9 win seasons in a row, I guarantee our fans will get full of themselves again, forget the bad times and declare “just anyone” can come in and do better.

Geez 77, you're forcing me to relitigate this old, sore subject. No one said that "just anyone" could replace MB and many if not most of us were not enthusiastic about the Strong hire.

Herman, on the other hand, was a consensus choice amoung the fan base. And, if he wins "5 natties in a row," I suspect that there will be a reasonable level of tolerance if he slips to three 8-9 win seasons.

I would be thrilled to be able to have that discussion with you at the end of the 2025, or 2026, or 2027 season.

I can see it in my mind and it's beautiful.

If I were the HC and won five in a row, I'd do a mic drop and exit stage right.

Justin Fuente of Virginia Tech is rumored to be the main target of A&M to replace Sumlin.

Well, I miss both of your qualifiers and hopefully I’m shown to be wrong on both counts ...

But since we’re chewing the cud again ... I’ll remind everyone of the support Charlie received for selecting his staff ... and how long that AD lasted (among other decisions that guy made, but we still have)

I was ambivalent about the Herman hire. Yeah, he was here on staff. So was Opie, and in a higher position than Herman was.

I acknowledge the association game isn’t terribly accurate, but it’s all most of us have. I wish Tom the best in “maturing” as HC at Texas. I truly want him to be successful. Why wouldn’t I?

anyhow ... just chirping since the issue was raised ... again.

Not as long as Saban is at Bama. Aggy May get lucky someday and win the west, but in true aggy fashion they’ll screw it up in the CCG. Until then, they will have to take pride in others and continue to put fake NCs and other championships up on their stadium wall.

True that. They may indeed get lucky and win one here and there, but with 'Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St and Auburn in their division, the likelihood of consistent success is slim. At least a couple of those teams are going to stand in their way every year. Like you said they would still have to get by the east champ.

I think many fans, myself included, were supportive publicly because we wanted it to work. We had early warnings that all was not right, like when he could not remember Tyrone Swoops' name in a deposition, but we excused them *because we wanted it to work*. We all jumped off the bandwagon at different times as we came to our personal realization that it was NOT going to work.

WRT Herman, my opinion is we HAD to hire him. He was the hottest coaching property on the market at that time, and after the CS debacle (including not getting our top choices and having to "settle") we had to show we were still a big deal and, if there was a coach out there that everyone wanted, we could have him if we wanted him. So there was a PR-saving aspect to the hire.

I am still on-board at this point. I see improvement in the team from last year, even if the W-L record does not show as much improvement as we would like. If we go out there today and take care of TTU, then you will know there is real improvement, because one of the many maddening things about CS was his ability to get a big win and then piss away the momentum by laying an egg the next week (ie, getting shut out by Iowa State after beating OU).

I saw on the crawl last night during the Egg Bowl that a$m has not had a winning conference record since 2012. Will they wake up and realize that the move to the SEC is not working out? I doubt it. Arkansas can't see it and they've been there since 1992.

Actually, yes, there were really posters saying Brown was the worst coach ever and that “just anyone” could come in and do better and win because “we’re texas.” It was insanity.

Also, there were a lot of posters suggesting Strong would turn it around because they players were going to get “real coaching” now. Ha!

From about 2013-2015 a lot of Texas fans in general went full aggy. It was pretty unbearable. Luckily it is over.

One of the problems with aggy is that they live life with beliefs and expectations that do not meet reality. They believe they have a fine institution, the corps is cool, their traditions are normal and they have a great, winning football team that should win. None of this matches reality. In order to reconcile their beliefs not meeting reality, they invent moral victories, excuses (the refs) and burnt orange media conspiracies.

Unfortunately, our general fanbase went full aggy 2013-15. Our fanbase decided that we should have won 10 national championships but Mack Brown was holding us back since he was the worst coach ever, we had a culture problem with a lot of bad apples and that Charlie Strong was a “real coach” who would fix it. In reality, Brown had a few recruiting and hiring misses, there was no culture problem, the bad apple problem was overstated and Strong was good non-major conference coach but a pretty bad major conference head coach. When reality did not meet expectations, excuses were made (“Strong needs to purge all the Mack Brown players”... even though his first year was his best year), moral victories were invented (“our team has core values unlike the other teams”), and conspiracies were invented (“Strong is not getting the support he needs” which was and is BS. The dude did not know what he was doing or what to ask for). Anyway, we went full aggy. Luckily, we seem to have returned to being normal and rational.
