Still, OT versus the great Duke. Can't complain about the trend so far.

What lost the game was 3-18. That's 3 made of 18 attempts beyond the arc. We cannot shoot the jumper from three point range well enough to justify continuing to put them up. We dominated in the paint. All we needed to do to win this game was continue to attack the basket. We have the athleticism and the talent to do that.

This game was there for the taking. Our guys played good defense, good enough to win. And Bamba and Osetkowsky should not take threes when they don't need to. They were ruling the paint. They were manhandling the Duke bigs. I hope Shaka has some serious talks with those guys. This is a teachable moment. If they learn and improve the sky is the limit.

And one more thing. Take the ball out of Davis' hands. He dribbles too much, wouldn't recognize an assist opportunity if it bit him on the nose. He is a post up shooter and occasional slasher to the hole. Play to your strengths. Those are his.

So Osetkowski and Bamba are now about 1-20 on 3's yet they keep shooting them. That's how you lose BB games.

I was at the game. Half of the arena was Duke fans; probably enough fans to more than fill up their arena back on the Duke campus. The "neutral" fans never got behind underdog Texas. Thought that it was going to happen after each of the incredible jams by Roach. Unfortunately the Carolina fans, who would have certainly been behind Texas, were in the other arena where UNC was playing. Hard to imagine anyone other than Duke's Bagley being the #1 pick in the NBA draft.

This team doesn’t have a true leader yet. Something I feared coming into this season. I thought Dylan would be that guy but I don’t think he has the fire. He’s going to keep the offense rolling and make big plays when we need him to but he’s not going to put the team on his shoulders. Snoop could be that guy but he’s more of an individual producer that’s just going to serve his own momentum. Coleman isn’t there yet. He does a lot well, but he needs to score points for us. He’s the 3rd least efficient scorer on the team behind two bench guys. He has no consistent shot from anywhere on the floor and defenses have already figured that out. Bamba can’t be aggressive without getting into foul trouble. His play on offense isn’t more prolific because he’s timid and is constantly double teamed so, apparently, were just going to deploy him as a rebounder/shot blocker. Which is fine, but yeah, stop shooting 3’s.

Absolutely no reason why Jase or JY shouldn’t be getting more minutes if other guys are having an off shooting night. I’m still going to maintain that Jase is a strong option for a 3pt shooting spark off the bench and JY has a street ball flare and a high voltage motor that pushes our tempo when we’re flat. Jacob Young is the most efficient scorer on our team with the highest PER and TS%. He absolutely needs to be rotating wayyy more minutes. We went flat last night when our bigs got in foul trouble. We completely lost our **** when they fouled out. No one stepped up to close out the game. Still can’t figure out why Banks didn’t come in?? I’ll start questioning Shakas ability to coach offense if he doesn’t make better adjustments.

All that said, Duke was still a hard fought battle and our squad should have won, but the outcome was hopefully a positive learning experience. Not one constituent in the masses expected us to play Duke that hard. Tomorrow vs #17 Zags is another great test for us. Zags may actually be a tougher match up than Duke was.

I think it's still hard to say what this team is or isn't after five games. I will say that by conference play, they better know whether they can dependably shoot 3s or not, and practice doesn't count. If they can't do it in the game, they need to yank the green lights for Bamba and Osetkowski (too lazy to look up the spelling) and frankly Coleman as well. Right now they seem way too willing to settle for the 3 if the wide open drive to the paint isn't there.

The work in the paint against the zone was as good as I've seen Texas execute in a long time, when they stuck with it. Lots of really good signs but they need consistency, and just a little more outside shooting help.

This really stung. Duke got exposed as nowhere near ready to be No. 1 in the country this weekend, and this was a huge opportunity that we have no one to blame but ourselves for missing.
