Damn, he will be missed, but I don't really blame him.
    This offense was a traveshamockery.
I will never forget how he demolished Tech 2 years ago. If only...

This might be as much of an inditement of the offensive coaching this year as anything we will see. We lose Warren and keep Porter. Does anyone see anything wrong with that picture?

He is a fullback, not a half back. He needs to transfer to Wisconsin or somewhere that uses a fullback. I think he actually has a pro shot at fullback if he transfers to the right school. Warren staying here was not good for either party.

Personally, i would prefer an OC that understood how to implement a fullback and could run a goal line formation in short yardage situations.

It's not an indictment of anything other than Warren didn't fit in the offense, and he wants to try somewhere else. Porter didn't make that decision, he seems to have a more natural role in it, and at least so far, he's staying.

I'm still unclear how much eligibility has left? Did he ever receive a Med RS?

Good question, was curious about that too.

I guess he will have to sit a year?

This offense was only made for Greg Ward and the 2016 Houston Cougars, or for Ezekiel Elliot and the 2014 Buckeyes.

We know CW isn't any Ezekiel Elliot. But a better coach would have adapted.

Well crap. I haven’t been bashful in my criticism of his lack of carries so not surprising anyone that this makes me sick. Good luck young man. You were the best back we’ve had in awhile, sorry you went underutilized.

    Has this been verified?
I could see him at the next level at fullback, maybe. He would need to learn to explode at the line with straight runs. He seems to stop and try to pick his hole and make cuts he cannot make. Is he a power runner because of his size at this level or because he runs like one? That is the issue at the next level.
A great kid and I think that they have started to use him more wisely. Really hate it if he leaves.

Can't say I blame him but it shouldn't have happened. Herman/Beck messed him up. I don't think he was the square peg on a team of round holes as Herman/Beck made him out to be. He has talent that another school will now get to realize.

PH, while I agree, the question is, "what offense?" Or, as I believe Rob Babers said, "Texas runs the Seinfeld offense. It's about nothing."

If you don't have the players to run "your offense," good coaches will adjust their offense to fit the available players. Beck/Herman didn't do a very good job of adjusting this year. And back to Warren vs. Porter, in short yardage, don't you want a back that can at least move the pile...a few inches? Beck's RB selection at the goal line suggests a complete inability to understand the situation.

And finally, if Beck/Herman are unwilling to adjust their offense to the available players, we might not see much improvement until 2019 or beyond because " their kind of QB is not on campus yet."

Agree with all this except the QB part I really think heard can do it if they invest in him this offseason it could work

Easy, man do I agree with you about Heard. This staff has given him a raw deal this year.

What is the antidote for a weak offensive line? One answer is a mobile QB. We all saw what he did in 2015 against Cal and OU. It's a travesty that he has not been given a chance this year.

Re: Heard: But they have LJH and Burt and anyone else have a chance to throw the ball. SMDH...
it would not surprise me if CW (both CWs as Conner has declared) are just the first dominoes to fall.

I don't disagree that this coaching staff was pretty determined to stick with the plan no matter what. Their theory, I assume, is that getting the groundwork of the offense in now was more important than doing something that they weren't committed to continuing in the long term. Maybe that's the right solution for two or three years down the road. It certainly hurt this year's team.

If your theory is true (and I think it might be) its hardly reassuring.
It would certainly explain a lot, but it also shows an arrogance and inflexibility that are not going to be a long term recipe for success here at UT.

At Houston he had the benefit of being Cougar High.
Even when UT sucks, teams have us circled on their calendar.
When/if Herman gets his offense installed and it becomes successful, teams will dissect it and find ways to thwart it and when they do will Tom Herman be able to adapt? Or will he stubbornly stick to it.

At this point he has not shown he has the flexibility. If ever there was a time to be flexible, year one as HC trying to kick start your new era of football sure seems like a good year to be flexible if it means a couple of more wins.

I feel like Tom Herman is getting together "his team". I personally don't recognize the love affair with Warren. He got injured early in his time here and seemed to lack that burst that Foreman had/has. Worked well as a receiver out of the backfield but generally couldn't create/make that first tackler miss. I actually embrace the idea that, basically, 2017 was a test run, nobody stood out, everybody's job was in jeopardy the next week (that statement will stir the pot I'm sure), so a lot of guys got a lot of playing time, though sporadic. Time will tell but I believe you'll see more of a set lineup next year. Players who stay fit the mold and they'll be in the mold Herman wants. Everyone not on board with that concept will have ample time to make myself and anyone else "eat crow" for siding with Herman's processes. There was a lot of losing going on the last 3-4 years. Believe Stoops was 7-5 his first year (lost the bowl game, I think). 1973, or '73, I could use some back-up! You're welcome Shilala! Glad you've come around to seeing West Orange's point of view..... :)

God bless Chirs Warren...good young man, team player (no griping or moping when the changes came), great character...a contributor from day one. A testament to his up-bringing.

Hope he finds the right match and then shines!

Best of luck to Chris. I have always thought he was more suited for a school that could put him in the "I" formation. He's a lot better when he's got a full stream ahead!! I can't remember which game it was where he took a a direct snap in wildcat with a full steam ahead and scored. ( I think WV game). obviously Tom will never get in the "I" formation.

My experience is that coaches prefer either running backs that hits holes or running backs that makes holes.
He could of been much better utilized than he was this year. Especially in the Tech game. I''m not surprised whatsoever. Thought he was given a bit of a raw deal.

    Yes, yes and yes.^^^

Hello Cody Johnson, I remember you. And I remember the big lineman in the backfield to lead the blocking.

    caryhorn is right on.

Vs. TT. 1st down at the 1 yard line - twice. No TDs. Never gave the ball to CW III. What happened to lining QB under center and falling forward behind the center and guards, instead of starting 5 yards behind the line to give DL the chance to penetrate?

What is the fascination with Porter - RB and KO return team?

Remember Lamar Houston blocking for Cody Johnson? Nothing ever stopped that on the goal line. Can you imagine Poona Ford blocking for Warren? Who's gonna stop that other than Tim Beck and Tom Herman?
