They're setting nice screens for Westbrook. I wonder why we can't do that.

At this point, Rellah needs some PT.

I agree. Why not let Rellah have a chance? It's not like our other frontcourt players are doing great. Interesting contrast between the 2 teams' freshmen. Theirs are on the floor all game and ours never set foot on the court. Are our freshmen really that bad? Should they not get a chance? Brooke and Sutton are both having awful games.

It’s time to get critical of the coaching here at Texas. We have 5 star recruits but I’ve yet to see Aston make a player great. Call me critical but I’m just telling the truth.

I guess someone has to foul out before they get their chance. Grrr.

I remember when LaShann was a freshman playing at TN, and she showed out that game! These kids want to play on a big stage. Give them a chance!

I just hope Ariel is ok, that's the main thing. The #2 thing was a mistake anyway. We're not playing at that level. Wish we had had some harder games to toughen us up.

OR or OR St could both have incredible teams with all the OR girls on Tenn (Nared, Russell, and Westbrook).

If Ariel is healthy the whole offense should be ran through her for the rest of the season. She’s by far the best player on the team.

Great to see Ariel back on the floor.

I don't believe Brooke will have a game like that again. Ariel was so fine. We need Joyner badly, today proved it. Let the freshmen have some minutes.

It was really the gray uniforms that did this.

Shocking game in terms of how pathetic the Horns played. How many traveling calls on Lashann? The TX players standing there looking at the ball while TN swooped in to snag the rebound.

As the announcers said, lots of tape to look at.

And yet as crappy at that game was, having 3 starters foul out and be 3 points out near the end of the game shows the potential we DO have - just poorly executed today.

damn, cable and internet went out at the beginning of the second half. just came back on. watched on my phone.

not happy with their play. certainly not the way they have played before this game. Tenn is talented but Horns let this one get away with a horrible start and poor shooting from outside.

Lots for the team to look and see how they can improve cuz it's not going to get any easier in the Big 12.

Let's go, Horns. learn and improve. :hookem2:It's a long season.
Sorry that Ariel and Brooke didn't close out their career with four wins over Tenn.

Safe trip home for the team and everyone that went up there.

I’m all for letting them get an opportunity but we don’t know if she’s doing what she needs to do to get that opportunity.

No one else on the team, besides Ariel, was doing what they need to do either.

Because as bad as Brooke and Shug were playing, inserting a freshman into a tight game with the lead only 3 isn't the right time. It's not like she'll whip out the superman outfit and drop 10+ points right when she steps in. In other words, if our 3-4 yr veterans are stumbling that bad, imagine a newbie getting chewed up in the last few desperate minutes.

The reason TN is back is because of their freshman. The reason we are ranked so high is cause of our potential (our Freshman) TN had their freshman on the floor making a difference. We had our freshman sitting at the end of the bench doing nothing. This is the same team as last year, can not shoot and can not execute. It was because of the offensive power of the freshman that we were supposed to get better, but if they don't play we are the same team.
Can we not make inbound passes any more?
All this talk about White banging inside. She looked more like Kelsey shooting jump shots at the top of the key.
Yes. we need Joyner, but that still doesn't give us an anchor down low which will end up hurting us at the end.
Playing 7 games of lay up practices didn't get us anywhere.

I’m speaking in terms of practice and the other things that the fans don’t see before the game.

    need to burn those. :smile1:

Really wish Rellah had gotten in the game. We could have used her ability to rebound in this game. No to mention finishing inside.

Lashann did it two years ago. You never know unless they get a chance.

I understand that. But, Jatarie and Audrey had 4 fouls at one point (eventually fouling out). Jordan got hurt. I just think Rellah could've made a difference down low.

We looked overwhelmed throughout the entire game. Can't believe we never seemed to adjust to the 2/3 zone. With Tennessee's height and pressure, in-bounding the ball was also an adventure.

I know this has been a topic of discussion before but why don't we ever run a zone defense? Karen prefers man-to-man but a change of pace defense seems like a good strategy in certain situations.

I too wish Karen would have given our freshmen a chance. Since our shots weren't falling, Rellah, Destiny or Chaz could have been the spark for a three pointer.

Hopefully this will be a learning experience for our players as well as our coaches.

    Ugh....disappointed we played so poorly.

TN fan here, and I’m not here to gloat. That’s not my style. That sure wasn’t a pretty game on either side, but it will help both teams going forward. This game won’t define our season, and sure won’t define yours. You guys will be a completely different team when Holmes gets back. Hope Atkins is ok, as she looked to be when she came back in. She has ice in her veins, that’s for sure. Good luck the rest of the season, and please, BEAT UCONN!! Someone has to, and needs to!!

Let me preface this very "introspective" post but clearly stating that the sky is not falling. We will get better and I expect many of the issues unmasked today to be fixed with film, practice and the addition of Joyner. But here goes anyway..............

I feel like this is the first time I've ever said this in her four years on the 40, and lord knows she's entitled to an off night, but Brooke played awful today. Tenn's back-court outplayed ours as a collective unit. And aside from Ariel, it wasn't even close. This game was ours for the taking multiple times down the stretch and we refused to snatch it.

The stats say we only got out rebounded by 2 but that is misleading because they crushed us in 2nd chance points. Not only in amount, but in the timing. We couldn't close key possessions with the defensive rebound. While I will stipulate that our guards can do a better job of making entry passes and finding them more often, but our front court has to get better. Both on the glass and in their decision making. Jatarie and AC-G made some grievous errors (as did most of the team tonight) that served as outlet passes and led to Tenn easy buckets.

I don't think the coaching was where it needed to be today either. KA anticipated that we would see a lot of zone today but we still seemed woefully unprepared for it. The staff is in practice every day so I am going to defer to them as to why we didn't see any of our zone busting freshman in the game, especially in place of Jada who didn't give us much. Hindsight is 20/20 but I would imagine they will look back and see some spots where they could've carved out minutes for Littleton & Booth. Speaking of Booth, I was surprised we didn't see her today especially since we seemed to struggle on the glass and that is one area she excels at. I also think we missed some spots to have the ladies prepared in game. From not having the ladies understand the time and score (why would we foul down 1 with 45 seconds??), to not being able to inbound the ball, to not getting Ariel the ball after she clearly established the hot hand in the second half. I feel like we should have rode her until the wheels fell off.

That leads me end on the lone positive that I took from the game and that is Ariel. That young lady is an absolute gamer, someone you can hang your hat on in big games. I look forward to our late game execution getting better as the season progresses. We wont have to wait very long because when the noles come to town in 7 days we will see if we've gotten better on the glass and better with our zone execution. I fully expect a heavy dose of both

Anytime the team doesn’t play well you have to be critical of the coach. We’ll see if Coach Aston and the team learn and get better especially with a good team in Florida State coming in.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to say it. If the coaches can keep our freshmen believing that TX is the place for them, that will be huge.
