Sounds about right. He really needs another year under TO et al.

So then Charlie didn't have a losing season his first year here. We were 6-6, and all the listings of us as 6-7 are false! Sweet!

Yes. It is baffling, as all the teams that don't go to a bowl are told the reason is they had a losing record.
Record of what, if not the season?
Some call it the "regular season" because the bowl game is something outside that.

I've not always been a college fan, so I once asked an older Texas alum why Royal was 8-7-1 in bowl games and he said that Royal looked at it as fun for the players, a gift. Until 1970, the polls closed after the regular season and before the bowls, so there was less incentive....

Here is something interesting from IT on Boyd. We strapped a GoPro to his helmet so he could see what he was doing with his eyes. It helped him improve. They think he will return.

    BOYD IMPROVEMENT
Kris Boyd has often been ostracized but his football character is more in line with what the staff is looking for. Guys like Boyd, Gary Johnson, and perhaps DeMarvion Overshown are what you're wanting when constructing a team identity.
Boyd has never lacked for want-to so when he makes a mistake it's not for lack of effort. Earlier in the season those mistakes were often characterized as brain-lock, which is somewhat true, but the real problem was he was losing his eyes. In recent weeks he's fared much better thanks in part to better eye discipline. To correct this the staff strapped a GoPro to his helmet during practice. This not only helped Kris but also the coaches to identify what he was seeing.
Boyd is another example of a defensive player showing improvement. He wisely wonders just how much better he'll be a year from now. Better and wealthier.

Thanks Joe. Great read. It is good to know what kind of person he is, as I know for myself and likely others, what I remember is the infamous tweet during a game his freshman year. This makes that sound like a true youngster's mistake and not a lack of character.

So what was Texas' record in Charlie Strong's first season at Texas?

Because they generally match teams with an approximately equal opponent.

From IT on Elliott's NFL prospects

"Another Texas-Ex, DeShon Elliott is beginning his training for the NFL Draft. Two sources told us that after watching every play from 2017, they don't feel strongly about Elliott's pro prospects. We were told the earliest Elliott might expect to go would be the 5th-6th round. Two scouts have flat out said he's making a mistake. He has a chance to put up some good combine numbers at the Texas Pro Day in March, but the combine-setting isn't where DeShon excels. He's never been a 4.4-4.5 guy, or a 4.0-4.1 shuttle player. His coverage skills have come into question and scouts have noticed that he benefited greatly from players around him and much simpler duties than he'd have in the NFL."

I thought it was because, although a top 5 national title type coach when he was here, his bowl record was basically .500 because they weren't relevant to the rankings so it was a gift for the players...

Charlie was 6-6 and lost the Texas Bowl to Arkansas 31-7. Are we predicting a repeat?

We better score more than 7 or, yes, it will be a repeat.

I wonder how many of these early exits are getting hot air blown up their a- - by agents. I have thought all year that Elliott played well but some of those interceptions came pretty easy. He did know what to do on the runbacks. The NFL has to be a little weary of Hill, depending on his reason for the suspension, and I appreciate Jefferson’s progress, but wonder where he will fit in the NFL defenses. His decisions in the middle have not always been good.

If these three drop to the 6th round it will bet a costly decision. And I won’t care.

If they drop into the 6th round I would suggest Tom hire a guy to help evaluate this crap so players have another opinion where they might land. They might still declare, but over time if Tom's guy is more accurate than slimy agents just trying to make a buck then players not ready might listen and stay to improve their stock value.

Jefferson has a toe issue. Flew to Green Bay, Wi. for treatment. Is day to day. Will play if healthy according to Herman.

Not good if he couldn’t get local or nearby treatment. Don’t toes take several weeks to heal?

Or there is a doctor there with a link to a particular team and that could offer up an 'unofficial' medical report to said team...
