I was baiting (fishing) I Don't Exist for using the term on another thread (He didn't like that Charlie was mentioned in a post about Mack Brown not recruiting Baker Mayfield). So I felt the need to bring up red herrings in the post but it was about Charlie being morally superior but apparently if a bowl game is in question he has ultimate faith in his qb and did not/will not suspend the player even for a series because "he knows this young man and he has integrity". The qb still made a lewd gesture during the loss to UCF and, since there's been talk of Baker Mayfield's unacceptable behavior, I took the opportunity to bring up Charlie's qb's unacceptable behavior that resulted in no suspension/punishment.

Maybe we should get @Dionysus to make a smilie like this, but with a red herring in place of the dead horse.

Ok, what's a troll? Ok, looked it up.....I thought I Don't Exist was being kinda snarky so I messed with him. I don't think I've violated any of the forum rules....

Lol I'm sorry I missed this.

OK Charlie isn't a Saint. There is other non football related junk out there that suggests that is also true besides this story.

I don't think they need to be perfect. I'd like them to at least try to be upstanding. That's still my position. And I'm sticking to it.

I do like the idea of the emoji beating a dead red herring with a stick! So would the herring be a red fish or something else?

Dion - get back to us on this worthy task!

I agree, the second one depicts the red herring best. Awesome.

Charlie did overplay his core values here and burnt some "witches"at the stake. So in some ways he had people focused on a clean program while he drove it in the ground. So I guess core values don't fly in Florida.
We are a lot better off now. This team is somewhere between 10-2 team and a 5-6 team.
We could of easily beaten SC,OU, OSU,and Tech had we closed. Or we could of lost also to Kansas State, the game we did close.
I would of love to have beaten 2 of the 4 of the teams we should of , but it still isn't up to our standard.
Here is hoping Herman picks plays that can get us back to the Tourney. I don't think we are too far way.

Yeah, we're a 6-6 team, near the bottom end of your scale - you are what your record says you are

We’ve been saying this for years. If it was true the law of averages would have caught up to us by now in which case maybe we would have won 8 games.

My Dad keeps telling my brothers and I, "Just wait till next year". This is like year 7 of him saying that in December. Eventually, it IS going to happen........Eventually!

Support means more than just throwing money around.

Stat, can you clarify what other kinds of support there is for a coach, and specifically where Coach Strong didn't get that support?

I would like to know how exactly Bill Powers and Greg Fenves did not support him. They were incredibly invested in him winning.

Both Powers and Fenves wanted Strong to be successful. The only publically announced issue was pay for assistants. Not sure what happened there - administration refusal to pay period or to pay for what they (and/or Hunt and/or Korn-Ferry) considered inferior coaches. But then he was still allowed to bring Watson along.

Strong had an issue with spending money on the program. Herman found the facilities wanting. On road games generally would leave late in the late afternoon with arrival later in the night. That took out one meal; meant little sleep because he had the team up by 6 regardless of kick time; but most importantly meant the team had to adjust to the visiting facilities the day of the game (where is the training room; what is the turf like; where are the pissers; etc.. This meant concentration and planning time before the game at the stadium was compressed. Whether that was a result of his upbringing or afraid he would be branded as a big spender I guess we will never know.

Interesting take. I had always just assumed it was Steve Patterson holding the purse strings which caused Charlie's woes there. Had not considered the possibility that it could have been Strong's mindset not to ask for things.
