Ray Poage in action, not sure who this is against...........can any of you oldtimers tell by the unis.
Looking at the upper lefthand corner of the photo, there is parking outside, which rules out TCU & SMU, although TCU had that big ramp going up to the visitors locker room. Floyd Casey has parking out there, but I don't remember Baylor having those unis. Same for Jones Stadium. My first visit to Fayetteville was a few years later, but that's my guess. I went to the Cesspool on the Brazos the first time in 67, and don't remember any parking outside the stadium on the northeast corner. Thanks, Ray was a really good guy.
Look at the referee uniform! As a student in the early 60s looking at the pants (if I recall correctly) makes me think Arkansas.
think you and SaberHorn may be right.........here is the Culpper,Treadwell photo and Danny Brabham's pants had the double stripe and the numbers on the helmet, so that must be Fayettenam!
The first photo is definitely Arkansas and I'm guessing Fayettenam 1961 when Ark would have hosted the home game vs. Horns. Horns would have had the single stripe on the helmet in 1961 - it was gone in 1963 when the Horns played the hawgs on the road there in '63.
I am thinking that is Arkansas...the East side of the stadium was where the hill went straight up in the air....parking lot was there in the '69 Arkansas game, too.....definitely from the 60's....not sure what year....the pic is taking in the northern part of the field between the 20-35 or so....so no band to be seen....the Arkansas band was small and sat on the 50....
Piggy's helmets 59-61 had numbers on the side so that fits a Fayettenam picture. (Pigs were on the helmets sometime between 1962 and 1964.)
I love this picture, especially the guy face planted with a cloud of dust which was perfectly captured. Just awesome!
According to this link https://www.gettyimages.com.au/phot...opular&mediatype=photography&phrase=ray poage the caption is: Texas Ray Poage (33) in action vs Arkansas Tommy Polk (69) at Razorback Stadium. October 21, 1961
That is Razorback Stadium when they were starting to add seats every year as they won more games. My brother wasn't there until 1965, his last game being the 1969 Sugar Bowl. The only Sugar Bowl the Hogs have ever won. The parking you see was eliminated with the construction of the athletic dorm, Wilson Sharp House, which was open by 1965. Some day when I have the time, I'll relate the story of Lloyd Phillips (Terry Don Phillips brother), cherry bombs, urinals, and generally blowing s**t up the night of the 1965 Texas game.
Yeah, that '65 game was painful. IIRC Texas was #1. Ark was #10 or something. 2 Phil Harris fumbles gave the hawgs defensive TD's. Horns rallied the second half to take the lead in the 4th but the hawgs won 27-24.
