I think we already figured this out, but interesting take on why teams from the Big XII will have a harder road to win it all. I think the thing they missed was the brutal beating a day in and day out a schedule like this takes on a team come tourney time. There is a thread on the womens bball page discussing this with a UCONN fan arguing that a schedule is a schedule.

I tend to agree that when you have a brutal conference schedule you come out with a lower overall seed very tired for the tourney making it more difficult for a team to win. On the other hand teams also come out battle tested so something like the tourney shouldn't be much of a problem for the first couple rounds because teams come out ready for anything.

I've heard possibly 8 teams getting in and ESPN says 6.8 teams so its either 6 or 7 according to them. If right we could be on the outside looking in if we end up .500 or below in conference play even though we're probably better than some of the teams that get in.

    • Average conference BPI: The average BPI rating for each team in the conference.

    • Top quartile conference BPI: This is a proxy for how good the conference is at the top by taking the average BPI of the top half of each conference and seeing where that compares to the other conferences.

    • Projected Sweet 16 teams: ESPN's 10,000 simulations of the remainder of the season using BPI allow for an objective look at how many teams, on average, a conference will send to the Sweet 16. Sometimes a good conference has bad luck (see ACC, 2017), while in other years a conference exceeds expectations.
    On to the rankings:

    1. Big 12

    Avg. BPI rank: 1st
    Top-quartile BPI rank: 1st
    Projected Sweet 16 rank: 2nd

Having only 10 teams works in the Big 12's favor when it comes to its average BPI, as there are no true bottom-feeders in the conference. BPI views Iowa State as the worst team in the Big 12 but the 88th-best in the country. The downside to the Big 12 is that every team plays a full round-robin against stellar competition, which results in more blemishes on each team's résumé. BPI projects the Big 12 with 6.8 teams in the NCAA tournament (second among leagues), but due to worse seeding, the model gives the Big 12 collectively an only 11 percent chance (fourth) of having a school win the whole thing.

At this rate in the Big 12 Round Robin it looks like everyone might end up at .500.

The strength of B12 basketball needs its own thread. :smile1:

Who would win, B12 basketball vs the United States Marines? No contest, B12 every time.
The B12 is so tough that it will probably have all four spots in the final four.

Sometimes Hornfans humor must be used to capture what is otherwise inexpressible in normal human discourse. :smokin:

Yep^^. Big surprise to me that the B12 went down so hard. wvu blew a 17 point lead in their loss. TCU just came out flat as a pancake. ou looks very beatable. Baylor looked like they were hungover.
Texas looked like a contender, IF Bamba stays healthy. Horns abused an ole miss team that has a couple of good wins this year. Including one over Florida.

Bad day for Big XII as lose three games in which it was favored. OU, TCU and WVU all with poor performances, this is not good as argument for seven teams into tourney isn’t helped by yesterday and is actually hurt by it.

It was a bad day but some interesting matchups. The one that really looked bad was TCU losing at Vandy - but TCU is now 1-4 on the road. Then you've got OSU - which hasn't won on the road all year - coming a point short at Arkansas. With the exception of WV losing to Kentucky, the rest of them seemed to shake out about like you'd think.

SEC's definitely taken a step up this year. It's pretty funny though that A&M's "breakout team" is now 2-6 in the league.

Not surprising at all. Bama's a very good team, much better than they showed when they played us. OU hasn't been particularly great on the road, and frankly I think they're a little overrated anyway. I wouldn't have been surprised if OU won, but them losing certainly wasn't a shock.

I expected ou to win and was surprised they lost. Not shocked, surprised. Also surprised more by tcu losing to Vandy than uK beating wvu. I guess I was mildly shocked the frogs let a very mediocre vandy beat them.

wvu is so up and down. Now, after getting clear about their inconsistency, I could see them getting to the final four, or getting knocked out in the second round.

Speaking of "anything could happen" talk, we are in that category, I think. Bamba is the key, along with roach and Davis a close second. If Mo stays out of foul trouble, AND if we get just a modicum of shooting from Roach and Davis, we are a VERY good team.
