Saw the news today that Barnes has apparently engaged in conduct at Tennessee that constituted a violation of NCAA rules. He took money from his own pocket to get his assistant's pay on par with another assistant. Since the school would not make it happen, Barnes chose to make it happen. Apparently a coach is not permitted to ensure salaries are commensurate with the task at hand.

I actually feel sorry for him since this is YET ANOTHER example of the shortcomings of the NCAA rules...

After the multitude of recruiting violations in KnoxVegas (that's "multitude" annually, not cumulatively), and with Phat Phil as AD (how can you not like a guy with the "criminal cup" named after him, as well as overthrowing a school icon and now the AD), the school wants to penalize a coach for being a good guy? What a cesspool.

OU and A&M never approached the classlessness of Tennessee.

    Any word on punishment?

The NCAA files on Tennessee violations likely consumes all the units in two storage sites in Indianapolis. Going back before Phat Phil was the HC, it will take the NCAA (No Cajones At All) decades to decide what and whom they want to punish first.

If those gutless wonders go after Barnes for a silly little situation, then he should open that can of worms with a huge lawsuit.

Who knows, with all the violations Barry accumulated, they wanted to go after him for paying for a kid to go home to his grandmother's funeral.
