Horns open season at home with 3-0 win. Kingham was nails. http://texassports.com/news/2018/2/...o-lead-baseball-to-3-0-opening-night-win.aspx Two more with ULL and a midweek game with Lamar before a huge early road trip to Baton Rouge next week. Great to have Longhorn baseball back.
So Orangebloods said they had a great fall, lots of guys hitting the ball well, and my first thought was "that usually means our offense will be bad and we will be so-so." First game out and I'm reading that we "competed" at the plate. Hope that's not an indication of things to come. So far Shugart looks excellent but we haven't even come close to hitting this guy's changeup. LOL and just as I say that Clemens grabs a 3-2 change and singles for a run.
Hate that they had to come back like that, but great way to finish it out. Sweep tomorrow may be tough, looks like they've got a good third starter lined up. Gotta start hitting the ball a little better!
Horns win 5-3 on walk off homer after Ridgeway blows save in top of ninth (errors didn’t help). They will look for sweep tomorrow against a good ULL team as we see how the third starter position begins to shake out. Texas is really strong at the one and two spots, a steady Sunday starter will be important if this teams has elite aspirations.
I just happened to turn the radio on after the base-running out in the 9th. Then I heard the walk-off. It wasn't Craig Way level euphoria but it was exciting to hear.
LSU is rebuilding as they drop 2 of 3 to Notre Dame to open their 2018 campaign.........Tigers pitching is nowhere near the level of the 'Horns as the Golden Gomers scored 28 runs in 3 games losing 8-7 on walk off homer then blasting LSU pitching last 2 games by 10-5 and 11-3 counts. 2 games vs Arky could be very interesting as the Piggies are favored to win SEC West this year
Horns drop the finale 2-1 but had already clinched a series win with the walk off yesterday. ULL has a good team that will challenge for a tournament bid so they were a good team to provide an early semi test. Big early test still to come next week in Baton Rouge even with LSU dropping their season opening series. Mid week game with Lamar Wednesday up next.
Beating ULaLa to start the year is very solid. It is a much better series win than most top 25 teams had opening weekend as many played the little sisters of the poor. I would love to follow this up with a series win at LSU.
Concerned about our lack of hitting with RISP. Looks a lot like last year, despite promises of upgraded hitting with JUCOs coming in. LaLaf starter went out with injury in the 5th and we could not hit the reliever, either. 4 hits total in the game for the Horns.
ULaLa does have good pitching. Apparently LSU does not. If we cannot hit against Lamar or LSU, we are in big trouble again.
