The media focus is primarily on North Korea interspersed with references to Syria. But even these are merely proxy wars with China and Russia that disguise the major conflict.

    1. Eastern Europe - NATO continues to function as a proxy army for the US as it expands the military buildup on the Russian border. For example:

    2. Ukraine - The US has approved and is shipping lethal weapons into Ukraine and has advisers training the Ukraine army on how to operate the weapons, etc. The Ukraine army is basically a proxy army of the US against Russia.

    3. Black Sea - For the first time in four years the US has sent two destroyers into the Black Sea.

    4. North Korea - This one has been highly publicized. The US continues to persuade the South Korean Government against talking with the North Koreans. Compromise is out of the question. Give up your nukes or we will destroy you. The US has lost credibility as a negotiator having destroyed Libya after Ghadaffi gave up his nuclear program and threatening to back out of the Iran agreement. The North Koreans do not trust the US. They will have their nukes and the US will look foolish or the US will destroy them and cause a holocaust.

    5. Venezuela/Columbia/Panama - The combinations of government mismanagement and fraud combined with US sanctions have crippled the Venezuelan economy. Whereas the US continues to tighten the screws and advocate regime change, the Chinese and Russians have bailed out the government and provided economic and military aid to Venezuela as well as Nicaragua. As a result, the population resents the United States. The region is getting ready to explode. If and when it does, the US will not be able to get control without putting boots on the ground. It will be jungle warfare and will be fought in Columbia as Venezuela has penetrated Columbia and there are tens of thousands of armed FARC members within Columbia that will fight on the side of Venezuela. Panama and control of the canal will be a prime target. (see video).

    6. Syria - You have the US, Israel, and the Saudis opposing Russia and Iran. Turkey is in it for themselves. Syria and Hezbollah are proxies for Russia and Iran whereas the extreme Sunni Arabs in the region are proxies for the US, Israel, and the Saudis. The Kurds have been used by the US and are fighting against Turkey and recently have enlisted the Syrians rather than fighting against them. The US is now giving only tepid assistance to the Kurds as the US tries to hang on to Turkey as, if not an ally, at least a buffer against Russia.

One Belt One Road - This is an economic project designed to enhance trade between China, the Asian land mass, and the Middle East. As it becomes successful, a greater share of world trade would pass through Asia and phase out the US. Trade would be carried out in the Yuan and other currencies bypassing the dollar. The lesser demand for dollars would weaken the dollar as a currency and threaten the US financial/economic system. The One Belt One Road project is the number one reason for the expanding US military presence in Afghanistan, the "pivot to Asia" around the China Sea, and the seldom talked about Africon expansion into Africa bases hosting US special forces. While terrorism is the only topic given to the public, its merely the window dressing. It's all about containing the economic power of Russia and China using a combination of the military, financial instruments, and proxy allies (Israel, Saudi Arabia, jihadist mercenaries). Countries of interest on the fence between the two spheres of influence would include Turkey and India. Diplomacy is no longer part of the US arsenal. Notice the language used by our "diplomats." Tillerson is probably the most reasonable in his speech. Nikky Haley is borderline insane with her barrage of bellicosity.

Bottom line - The US will a) lose this battle by bowing out and/or going bankrupt or b) find itself in a world war that unlike the first two, will see attacks within the continental US, possibly nuclear. In such a war there are only losers and bigger losers.

If your criteria is body count and inflicting massive damage, the US always produces high numbers. But if your criteria is obtaining objectives, the US falls dramatically short.

Because of the Syrian conflict, the US has lost influence in the Middle East to both Iran and Russia. Europe has seen a massive influx of refugees (or worse), and the percentage of military expenditures continues to grow adding hundreds of billions of additional debt. This isn’t victory. It’s failure and it’s 100% opposite of what Trump campaigned on.
