    “Despite Charli Collier’s 31-point, 11-rebound performance...”

“With 1:05 left in regulation it looked as if Barbers Hill had locked up the victory, leading 63-54 after a pair of free throws by Logan Keene.”

“Barbers Hill watched as Temple finished regulation on a 9-0 run in the final 54.2 seconds, being capped by a left wing three pointer from Breyaunna Sigler – who finished with 21 points – with four seconds remaining to tie it at 63-63 and force overtime.”

“With 2:10 left in overtime, Collier was assessed a foul. Upset with the call, Collier took the basketball and slammed it to the court. Because of this, the senior was assessed a technical foul, which was her fifth of the game ending her night.”

And, they lost 78-74. Man, I hate seeing athletes with unsportsmanlike reactions to fouls called. Sigh. I hope it was just a one time thing with Charli.

Doesn’t sound typical. Just earlier today I read an article in the Houston Chronicle:
But coach Tri Danley said the reason she's putting up big numbers is her ability to stay on the court a full 32 minutes every night, which he attributes to her smart play (she's avoiding foul trouble).

Terrible way to end a stellar high school career. Their other key player, Madison Armer, fouled out at the very end of the fourth quarter. I wasn’t there but having 2 stars for 1 team foul out (with little/no history of foul trouble) in 32 minutes of play sounds like overzealous officiating. IIRC, fouls also ended Duncanville’s 109 game win streak in the state championship game when Ariel was a senior. Tasia, Ariel and at least 1 other Duncanville player fouled out with several minutes left in the game against Manvel (Brianna Turner and Jordan).

It will seem strange not to see Duncanville at State. Plano and Sachse representing Metroplex, Sachse hasn’t gotten enough press this year I guess. Judson and Cypress Creek the other 2. Should be really good. Plano’s size must have offset Gusters. I did read where Lolo Davenport played Friday for first time in almost 3 months. She had 9 points in limited time. She may or may not have helped. Will be interesting to read tomorrow what really happened in an 11 point Plano win.

The only player in the State tournament that Texas is recruiting is Jordyn Merritt from Plano HS. Congratulations to Jordyn and the Plano Wildcats! I was really looking forward to seeing Sedona and Charlie vying for the state title. Oh Well playing for a National Championship in Burnt Orange will do!!

A lot of surprise upsets that didn't make the finals: Duncanville, Liberty Hill, Canyon, Barbers Hill, Canadian, Pflugerville, Cibolo Steele, SA East Central.....

Teams that are back and seem to be there every year: Nazareth, Brock, Argyle

Not UT-related but my niece’s team, 2A Claude, made it. They beat their district rival (last year’s state champion) who they lost to twice during district play to advance to San Antonio. I can’t make the first game (Friday, 10:00 AM) but if they win, I’ll probably drive down Friday night. She’s only a freshman on a team with a lot of seniors so she doesn’t get much playing time but it would still be worth the trip.

I don't recall Judson every having any kind of girls' hoops success/tradition whatsoever. Perhaps their point guard, Corina (last name?) is a big key. Believe she camped with us this summer. Forget if she is 2019 or 2020.

Plano played really poorly in second and third periods. They went to a press late third and it was the difference. Glad to see Davenport play so good......MVP.

Was kinda surprise Timberview got beat. Reading the write-up, Timberview played well but Amarillo was really hot from BTA. Not a real upset though as The Sandies were really good.

Argyle winning a fourth straight was surprising. Surprising to get out of their region. Not surprising once they made it to State..

Congratulations to ALL the teams in San Antonio.
