Lisa Mattingly does it AGAIN

We all remember Lisa Mattingly calling a technical on Coach Aston in the Big 12 championship game against Baylor with a couple of minutes left I think which was a huge swing and possibly cost us the game. Now she goes and does it again against Louisville in their semi-final NCAA game against Mississippi State because the player slapped the floor. Just absolutely TERRIBLE officiating and decision by her at such a crucial time in the game. Sorry, but good officials just don't do that. BOTH announcers criticized her for calling that "T" at such a crucial time. She needs to put her ego to the side and do what is RIGHT!!!!!

I agree with you that these two technical fouls were critical calls in the both games. Unfortunately, only the players and the coaches suffer any consequences of the referee's questionable calls.

Also not calling the obvious foul by McCowen at the end of regulation.

Technical was a bad call. McCowan call was OK. Refs shouldn't call it with a couple of seconds left - that potentially gives the game to the fouled team. Yes, the free throws could be missed, but the point is to not give one team an unfair advantage. Remember when Baylor lost to Tennessee after the ref called a foul with 1-2 seconds left in a tied game (2005?)? Tennessee made free throws and there wasn't enough time for Baylor to go full court. Mulkey protested to the NCAA, but nothing happened, or was publicly announced. A foul is an action that gives one player an unfair advantage, according to the rules. So you won't see a foul called at the end of a game, unless it is a full-on take down or so egregious that it can't be ignored.

A foul is a foul ,regardless of timing. They may not call it as much with little time left, but it is certainly not “giving” the game away.

Good catch! I had no idea that the same referee called both fouls. I also disagreed with the technical called on the Louisville player that resulted in the player fouling out. So what if the player showed a little emotion. Her behavior did not rise to anything unsportsmanlike or disruptive to the game. I do not know what Aston said. She may have earned that technical. But it was a little hard to swallow with all the antics we have witnessed from Mulkey over the years with no action from the refs.

She body checked her into the stanchion it was an obvious foul. I’m all for letting them play if it’s a ticky tack foul at the end but that wasn’t the case.

The biggest problem is The inconsistency involved here... you call a foul (and a subsequent BS technical) for wrestling for position under the basket, then turn around and turn a blind eye to a body check that prevented a game-winning basket. I say this objectively because I was pulling hard for Mississippi State. The officiating in women's basketball is, overall, HORRENDOUS.

Yeah, I totally disagree with this. Don't want to be called for a foul late in the game that could cost the game, don't foul. Refs need to call the fouls, regardless of when they occur.

I completely agree with Babhorn (and Lawson and Lobo). The rules do not change in the last minute or two of a game. (Oops, I meant to say I disagree with Lawson and Lobo, who thought the call should not have been made so near the end of a game.) Why have rules? How do the players know when they can start fouling the hell out of the other team and it won't be called?

I thought they let a foul go in last night’s game when Mabrey cut off Morgan William and ND got the ball back. I didn’t see more than 1 replay but it sure looked like a foul.

I noticed the same thing. It was definitely a foul.

Really glad to not see Lisa refereeing the championship. I’ve witnessed her be a game changer in too many games, and not in a good way, IMO.

The slap on the floor was the last straw..she had been saying stuff all night..Lisa is not perfect, but the two Techs y'all are referring to were both warranted..

Were you out there playing? I don't believe you were. I saw a lot of frustration with that young lady as it was a very physical game, but I never saw her "saying stuff" "all night long" like you are claiming. Again, THAT call turned the game around. It was, is and will always be a TERRIBLE CALL. Lisa Mattingly has a "history" of making sure it's all about her. Rather than let the players decide the outcome, she directly influenced the outcome of that game because of her ego. THAT is NOT good officiating in any shape, form or fashion!!!!!

Yep some refs think they are more important than the players and the game which is one reason why I hate watching sometimes.

That describes Mattinly to a T. She has become the ref that I hate the most.
