Did the survey today, took about 15 minutes. It appears that current admin is looking to expand south end zone seating with premium luxury options - field level, club seats, living room and several other options. $350K per 4 seat group is mentioned plus LHF plus tix as an example. All those open balcony spaces dont address the daytime temperature from Sept to Nov. IMO the plan is to add capacity thru luxury priced seating rather than increase the stadium capacity significantly.
I just completed the questionnaire. How many times can you ask "why don't you want to pay more to sit in the endzone, see nothing, all the while being deafened by the jumbotron"? WE ARE THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS! I don't give a **** about what Mississippi Cow College or Colorado A&M have added to their ******** little stadiums. They are NOT now and NEVER will be on our level. OK, so throw in Minnesota & Cal - WHEEE! I really want us to be on their level. Can we please fill up our empty seats that exist before adding more. It is Memorial Stadium, home of The University of Texas Longhorns (& once the Texas Relays), so can we quit trying to turn it into Dallas Country Club or Houston Country Club. Robert Dedman did a magnificent job on The University of Texas Club, which does nothing to enhance gameday for a true football fan. I also asked them to turn off the sound on the jumbotron, eliminate commercials, can the midget, bimbo, & fat weatherman. Make the students a priority, not an afterthought. This survey was very disheartening
It is starting to look like Owen Field after they "bowled" the south end zone. Difference being that ou actually LOST seating capacity.
Caught the first leg of their Texas tour yesterday. AD said he's getting rid of the commercials (not sure if he meant all of them) and that he too wants to hear the band during games. Wants everyone to submit their suggestions, but didn't say anything about dumping midgets, bimbos, fat people, blacks, Jews, gays, Methodists, or crotchety old *ucks. Also said concession prices are too high. Looking at options. Since tailgating space is being swallowed up, wants a more family atmosphere - concerts and such coming. Eddie is getting a new outdoor swimming pool. He deserves it! Tom didn't add anything that we haven't already heard. Shaka was cool; my daughter and I posed for a pick. Coach Capitani is caliente.
LC, were you as disappointed with the "Tour" as we were last night? The "guests" (except for Aston, Del Conte and Perrin) all showed up at the last minute before their scheduled talk. They all had a brief convo with the new AD and the crowd, then literally ran out without any pictures, one on one, etc---the only person we had the chance to talk with ever so briefly was Shaka---very disappointing---been to the one with Strong back in '14 and met with Mack & Crew after he hired Diaz etc, and they all stayed to talk with us--not worth it this year, imo
Yea felt the same way 87. My daughter and I were discussing that on the way home. We both decided this was a small way for us to contribute....looking for a silver lining. Enjoyed listening to Eddie though. Aston was nice, chatted with her a few minutes. I missed Charlie but caught Mack, Diaz, Major etc at Petroleum Club. Probably the same one your'e talking about. That group was extremely gracious with their time. Took photos with practically all of them. But yea, other than Shaka, they shot out of there like high school lunch break.
I guess they figure if we can't sell out "regular" overpriced seats we might as well add more luxury to the stadium. Maybe when the $5 Stampede Zone seats come back in the north these will sell for $20....I'd buy that!
Yep. Owen Field South. And to think, it wasn't that long ago that we took out the track and lowered the field. Getting to be unrecognizable. And yes I qualify for old and *******.
Yeah, I got Chris Del Conte's survey about preferences for the south end zone asking questions about everything from the ground level box seating to living room type suites. The overall look still needs some work (too "Jerry Worldish"), just not for me and especially not at $5,800 per seat for my own "living room". Seems to be the way of the future and a lot of folks will probably jump on that with the proposed new amenities. We need folks who will help pay the tab for the SEZ renovation. Since we are building (or rebuilding) a top national program, we need a world class stadium to play in. But, I'm keeping my cheap assed butt in my same seats. I did like having the opportunity to provide feedback on the rest of the stadium and address issues like the band, commercials, WiFi, sound system, tailgating areas, Jumbotron, restroom situation, concessions, parking and so on. Hopefully some of that will get worked out for the better.
