Horns head to Lubbock for last Big XII road series. At 12-6 Texas is in second place in conference 3 games back of Okie State at 15-3 and 1 game ahead of Tech who sits at 11-7. These last two conference series on road at tech and then home for TCU hold key to post season seeding or even making post season if Horns are not careful.

Tech swept us in Austin last year. If they sweep us again this year, the entire complexion of this season changes, as both Tech and Oklahoma (which plays K-State this weekend) would likely leapfrog us in the standings. And all of a sudden, Keith Moreland's magic target of 35 regular season wins (not counting the B12 tourney) would become a lot more challenging.

There is no radio or game stats listed on TexasSports website. Am I stuck with Tech announcers?

I have AT&T U-verse, but don’t have the Fox college package (which you need for this game)....I hate cable providers!!! But, you can download Fox Sports Go app and watch there.....via the app or Apple TV, Roku, etc.

8-6 Horns in top of 8th. Can we hold them off for 6 more outs?

    Horns Win!!!!!!!

    Texas 12
    Tech 6

Tech leaves 12 on base tonight including 3 in the bottom of the 9th to end the game. Clemens with 2 HR, scoring 3 times and 3 RBI as the hero, but Hamilton and Petrinsky also hit one each resulting in 5 of the 6 runs in the 3rd inning. Horns put up 14 hits with only McKenzie and Hibbler not getting one. The team was on fire. Great win tonight, now lets take the series!

Kingman had a pretty solid night also. Hope this weekend goes a little better than last weekend after taking game one. Still trying to figure out how this team got beat 2 out of 3 by KSU earlier in the year. I would definitely take 2 out of 3 against Tech now, and TCU too.

Our pitching has been so poor lately, I was expecting a sweep. So we are playing with house money today and tomorrow as far as I am concerned.

Losing 14-5 in the 8th inning.

Why is this team so jeckyll & hyde? Seems like we are either good or terrible....there is no average for this team.

This outcome was fairly predictable. They’re consitently inconsistent. A staff with a 4+ ERA will eventually lay an egg in a 3 game series. I see 2-2 in the last 4 B12 games. Then, maybe 1-2 wins in B12 tourney. We’ll still likely get a 2 seed, but could end up in CA again. Unless we play at home, our chances to advance to a super regional are zip!!!

Our starting pitchers have ERAs of 4.50, 4.43 and 3.32, respectively. A guy many thought would be our top reliever has an ERA of 9.95. It’s the weakest rotation of starting Longhorn pitchers I can remember. As I mentioned in another thread, it’s kind of amazing to me that we’ve done as well as we have this season.

:arrow-up: Totally agree. Even when Texas could not but the pitching was always there.

Explanation is that the pitchers lay an egg 1 out of 3 games that distorts the average.

We just gave Tech their only home series loss of the year. Tech is 23-4 at home with only one home game left meaning we currently account for 50% of Tech’s home losses this season.

I would say this was a solid series road win against one of the top 8 teams in the country.

    :bounce2::bounce1::yippee::bounce1::bounce2::yippee::bounce1::bounce2:

Horns stand at 33-18 overall 14-7 in conference, alone in second place but 4 games back of okie state in loss column. Horns don’t play again until a week from Tuesday as they take this week off for finals. They have that Tuesday game on May 15 with Texas State and the home series with TCU to close out the regular season beginning on Thursday the 17th.

More like a perfect example of playing to your level of competition. Taking 2 out of three from two of the better league teams on the road and losing two out of three from two of the bottom feeders. Hopefully the football team learned their lesson from last year after losing to both Maryland and Tech at home. But some of that has to go on the Coaches.

Agee on the football part. Baseball is different due to the number of games; the pitching wildcard; and the number of coaches permitted. A poor pitcher can look great if the opposition isn't focused. In Texas' case, the additional wildcard is the relatively young overall pitching staff.
