Was not sure which thread to put this in since there are so many where it seems to potentially fit...but sadly, parents of a 30yo had to sue in order to get the message across to their child that he had to move on with his life. Moving on necessarily entailed moving out of THEIR house.

And then to have the audacity to spend the money the parents gave him on something OTHER than moving out was not enough to move the meter in this case...he had balls enough to tell the judge that he needed at least six months in order to make a move.

He needs a lawn dart to the head...repeatedly.

    agreed.

We benefitted from living with my folks, pregnant and with a 5 month old ... it was for 3 months ... in between active duty and the next job. Very thankful for that but were happy when we got our apartment with the next job as we looked for more long-term housing.

I can't comprehend the ideal of being healthy and capable ... & yet fighting to stay living with moms and pops. SMH.

I'm no landlord-tenant expert. In fact, I might have been asleep that day in Property class. However, unless this guy had a lease agreement with his parents, I'm not sure why he's not a trespasser. He's not a child with an affirmative right to their support. He's an adult (at least in terms of his age) - a guest in their house.

If you look at the guy, I think it's pretty clear what the issue is.

To his credit, he did put on nice clothes in court. However, on most days, I'll bet he looked more like this.

I think stuff like this happens all the time and we just don't hear about it because the squatting family members don't look like the lead singer from K0Rn.

I'm with you, Deez, I don't get why they couldn't just call the cops. When I first heard about this, I thought the son was suing the parents to stay.

I believe this situation is very common these days. Parents just don't normally sue to evict their kids. They usually just bribe them to move out.

I know a family who let their millennial son move his pregnant girlfriend into his bedroom. The son and his girlfriend had a daughter and continued to live in his childhood bedroom after the baby was born. The parents finally put down a deposit and the first and last months rent on an apartment for them and paid movers to move them out.

But, it didn't last. They broke up and the son brought the child back home because the girlfriend didn't want her. Turned out she'd had several other kids previously, none of whom lived with her. The girlfriend was already seeing someone else, whom she planned to move into the apartment the parents had rented when the son left.

Neither the son or his girlfriend ever worked steadily. They'd occasionally get a menial job, which wouldn't last more than a few months. So, now the parents effectively have a new baby to raise while their worthless son is allegedly pursuing some kind of technical education.

I admire the NY couple that threw their son out legally. I think more people should take that approach.

Makes me wonder if the kid ever had any responsibilities growing up or if the parents just did everything for him.
