I didn't want to take over the Connie Clark thread and this subject heads the opposite direction. What qualifications do you think should play a role in selecting the next coach (more later) and who do you have on your wish list and your realistic list? I don't know much about coaches, so not much to say there. 1) Young, rising star coach? 2) Older, established coach? 3) Already has head coaching experience or doesn't matter? 4) NCAA tournament experience? 5) From which conference? A) Wish list coach? B) Realistic coach?
Now, my 2-cents: 1) A young, rising star coach so that they've got the time and energy to build up a program that doesn't depend on a once or twice-in-a-lifetime star pitcher showing up on campus (Cat, Blaire) 2) Maybe from the.......SEC? or PAC-12? Those I think are the two dominant softball conferences where they have to recruit hard and play hard teams. I've seen the wish-list name of the HC of Florida be tossed around. Nah, not being realistic. It's like saying, "Let's go get Patty Gasso!" What we need is a 15-year younger version of Patty.
Anything Cat learned about being a coach, she learned from Connie Clark, so that is a deal-killer for me. Seriously, balling your eyes out over Clark retiring? Come on. My moonshot coach? Keith Moreland.
