Memorial Stadium Oct 4, 1952.......Horns vs ND............Irish up 14-3 which would end up the final............when did Rooster/DKR change us to the Burnt Orange??? That looks more like Tennessee orange and its weird seeing colored jerseys and pants.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

1952 team was HC Ed Price. They wore orange helmets too.

Believe DKR changed bright orange to a darker orange shortly after arriving in 1957 and then to a burnt orange shade in 1962 or for sure 1963.

    Sabre probably knows for sure....

    Great photo.

I'm kinda liking that triple team on the right side of the photo as we look at it. Not sure what it is but it sure took the guy out of the play.

Notice how both teams are on the home sidekine?? Notice how Texas team is still in the sun? Here's the story about that from Notre Dame back, John Lattner:

I guess thats why Price ended up losing his job as coach at UT (thank god cause the next man up was a WINNER)..........he essentially gave away home field advantage by doing that.

I have a business associate, who was recruited by Price, A&M, Jess Neeley, and USC among others. He drove from Hobbs to Houston to visit Rice, then to A&M, before going to Austin. His recap:

    1) Kids at Rice were smart and wore nice clothes. He owned a couple of pairs of jeans and one pair of boots.

    2) Aggies were a cult with no women on campus

    3) Loved Texas, couldn't stand Price, who also coached the NM HS allstar game. Ron says he never talked to Price or was around him at practice when he wasn't "drinking". I never met Ed Price, so I have to take Ron's word for it as he has never lied to me in our long friendship. Perhaps someone else can confirm or deny Ron's version.

    4) After meeting Price, he traveled out to LA, saw the beaches, the women, went on dates with Disney's daughter and Miss Kaiser of aluminum fame. Was on USC team for four years, playing three those. FWIW, his roommate married Miss Disney.

Outside of 2-3 OK to good seasons early in his tenure (and win over Tenn. in the 1953 CB), Price was a pretty mediocre to poor HC from everything I've read and what my Dad said about him years ago. Losing seasons at UT between 1954-1956 and heat he was probably getting could be a factor in his "drinking". Remember his team went 1-9 in 1956 before DKR stepped in 1957 and started to turn things around.
