I really have to wonder if they think it will work or if they know it won't but they are in it for themselves and their cynicism about the people drives their rhetoric. You have so many anarchist malcontents who think the money in our country was all stolen so we should just take from the Fortune 500 and their execs to pay for their needs without any requirement of meaningful effort.

I may be naive but it is my belief that the US is as powerful (great?) as it is because of incentives and rewards. When you create a high level of egalitarianism and play funny money with government jobs then you have thrown cold water on the fire of ambition, invention and the work ethic that is the secret to our success.

And speaking of cynicism, we now have the next step up in open borders: first came sanctuary cities; now we must eliminate law enforcement. That's how I see it. It is clear this is a racist driven initiative from the Latino community because they are so emotionally charged about their own culture along with an effort to regain power by the white liberal establishment. But it may back-fire on them because Ocasio-Cortez could be the tip of the iceberg. They don't want to share power with white liberals. They will want it for themselves.

I think it's easier to diagnose with the young ones. While their bodies may have fully formed by their early twenties, their brains have not. Logical thought, generally, does not fully develop until the late 20s. So they get something of a pass. We also need to break up the Teacher's Federation (and all teachers unions) in order to force feed school kids the history of the 20th Century. If the last century was about anything, it was this battle of systems which was allowed to fully play out over time. The facts are in and they are conclusive. There was a clear winner. The available evidence suggests not all young people have been taught this history.

But the older ones cant be fixed. I will never forget a town council meeting in Portland in the 90s (part of work for me). It was amazing - these people were not living in the real world whatsoever yet they held all the political power. They basically shut down all business in the city. There were no new jobs there for a long time. No business would re-locate there, while many had left. It's much better there now. But it took watching their city crumble all around them before they finally woke up. Parts of Los Angeles were the same. For example, a friend of mine from school told me she was once assigned to evict someone from a building in Santa Monica. It took nearly 4 years (the lease had long expired). And, in the end, they had to pay the tenant's moving expenses.

    @Joe Fan

I think the country has been swept over with a "I'm gooder than you" mind-set. Every young person is obsessed it seems with the new morality (as defined by Liberals). Social media has amplified it to 11 because you can be ruined if you are not on board including the obsession with gender which is logically (the way I read it from the Left) heading towards not calling your children a boy or a girl anymore because you would be confusing them. This is a far cry from not legislating morality in the bedroom.

    :(

Add to that the BLM campaign, doubled-down by Kaepernick and the NFLPA which is challenging the NFL's anthem policy. They are not backing down. Patriotism is now possibly considered to be anti-black. Not watching the NFL anymore is possibly considered anti-black.

There is so much intimidation going on. I just don't see how anyone on the Left can believe that there is a genuine heart-felt social shift outside their own ranks (who are easily identified; i.e. the extremists). I believe there is a large percentage of true Democrats (Conservatives minus the evangelicals meaning abortion remains legal and gays get their rights) out there who are afraid to draw the line in their own party. The victory by Ocasio-Cortez is going to cause the same problems for them as Trump did for main-stream Republicans. Which side are you on? Are they for real or just a fad? Well Trump was for real. Is Ocasio-Cortez?

So true. The left seems unable to feel good about itself unless it is bringing someone else down. Which, if you think about it, is sort of how socialism itself works.

Wow... she just keeps talking, doesn't she?

"Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs."

Stunning. The more I hear her, the more she sounds like a 28-year-old bartender whose only political experience is talking to her progressive hipster friends over the bar about what they read on Salon.con last week.

On progressive radio today, I heard the progressive platform:

    1) environmental justice (I assume global warming legislation?)
    2) healthcare for all
    3) universal guaranteed income
    4) open borders
    5) legalize marijuana
    6) free college for all
    7) law enforcement justice
    8) defend Roe v Wade
    9) eliminate electoral college
    10) reparations for African Americans

    Bravo liberals.

now this loon is calling for :
" We have to occupy all of it,” she told Democracy Now! on Monday. “We need to occupy every airport. We need to occupy every border. We need to occupy every ICE office until those kids are back with their parents, period.”

Ocasio-Cortez claimed that ICE is not in the business of immigration enforcement, despite that being in its very name.

“First of all, ICE is not [U.S. Customs and Border Protection],” she said. “When we talk about abolishing ICE, we’re talking about ending family detention. We’re talking about ending an agency and ending a practice and a structure that is not accountable to the U.S. Department of Justice, that often takes on things that look a lot like enforcement activities.”

Think any Dem will educate her on what ICE does . And the fact that ICE is not the agency involved in the kids and following the court ruling.

She's misquoting an internet meme that has floated around on social media. The meme says that ICE isn't in the business of border security. That is actually true, but the fact that she's getting her policy arguments from internet memes says a lot. The more I hear from Cortez, the more I can see that she's a ditz with a very, very superficial command of issues.

So how crazy is the progressive wing of the democrat party? The aforementioned progressive card-carrying democratic socialist who wants to abolish ICE, give everyone a government job and free college tuition is now considered a traitor and "turning to the right" because while she was calling Israel an "occupier" who perpetrated a massacre on innocent Palestinian protestors, she has the gall to acknowledge that Israel has the right to exist and is OK with a two-state solution.

    http://dailycaller.com/2018/07/18/ocasio-cortez-democratic-party-splitting/

"In her interview, she professed support for “Israel’s right to exist” and a “two-state solution.”

While many Americans would believe such positions count as Ocasio-Cortez’s most reasonable beliefs, many on the left who supported her primary candidacy particularly because of her hostility towards Israel, expressed betrayal.

The Palestinian activist outlet Electronic Intifada accused Ocasio-Cortez as “cower[ing] before [the] Israeli lobby.”

“One lesson Ocasio-Cortez needs to learn quickly is that attempting to appease the Israel lobby is futile. The pressure on her is not going to let up unless she totally surrenders to the most extreme pro-Israel positions,” EI’s Ali Abunimah wrote.

This sentiment was shared with a number of other leftists and Palestinian activists, including Corey Robinson in Jacobin, an American socialist magazine.

“[Her interview on PBS was] a bad moment for the Left but it was also a lost opportunity: to speak to people who are not leftists about a major issue in a way that sounds credible, moral and politically wise,” Robinson wrote.

Other activists echoed conservative criticisms of Ocasio-Cortez by suggesting her performance on Firing Line was nothing more than evidence of her ignorance.

“One of the first things that excited me about [Ocasio-Cortez] was when she called Israeli murder of Gazan protesters a ‘massacre’ and urged Democrats to no longer be silent,” left-wing journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted on Tuesday. “But when I interviewed her, I saw her knowledge of the various complex Israel/Palestine issues was rudimentary.”

Therein lies the problem with Ocasio-Cortez. While so many leftists and radicals placed their hopes and dreams into her candidacy, any deviation from their policies will be deemed a betrayal.

Robinson went as far as labeling her a “fraud.”

“[Her interview is] confirmation that she is no real leftist, that she is turning right, that she’s been absorbed into the Democratic Party machine, that she’s a fake, a phony, and a fraud.”"

It has to be tough representing an "ethnically diverse" district in the New York City area. It's New York City, so there probably are some Jewish people in or at least near her district, and older liberals view Jews as a minority worthy of sympathy and support Israel. Think Chuck Schumer. However, a large number of younger Democratic activists (especially non-white ones) view Jews as white, colonial oppressors, and they pretty much live for identity politics. Think Linda Sarsour. The Sarsour types have big sway in a Democratic primary, and frankly, they're the future of the party. It is going in that direction, and in a district like that, the pedal is to the metal.

Obviously, Ocasio-Cortez isn't at any risk of losing to a Republican. It's a D+29 district. However, I think she fears a repeat of the 2006 Joe Lieberman-Ned Lamont race, when another wingnut Leftist (Lamont) defeated a Democrat who didn't hate Jews and America in the primary (Lieberman). Crowley will still be on the ballot in November under the Working Families ticket, and like Lieberman, Crowley has a record of relative moderation and generally supports Israel. If Crowley attracts older and white Democrats plus the handful of Republicans in the district, he could beat in her November like Lieberman beat Lamont.

And that's why she's taking "extreme pro-Israel positions" like that they have a right to exist. However, of course, the downside is that when she talks like that, it demotivates the latter-day Heinrich Himmlers that form the activist base.

Her district is 50 Hispanic, 15 black 10 Asian and 25 Anglo and the Anglo she ousted had a liberal voting rate that hovered around 80 and he had a lot of seniority which his district pizzed away to vote for someone who looked more like them. The dem coalition will collapse if the colored progs keep this up
