OK, so, if whatever Russia did in the 2016 election was “act of war,” as some lefties have alleged, then I would argue the same is true for British intelligence. They were, after all, directly involved in spreading malicious lies about Trump. As far as I can tell, the primary distinguishing feature that keeps the media from discussing what MI5/MI6 vis-à-vis with what the Russians did is that the Brits backed a different horse. Their goal was seeing Hillary elected. Should this really make a difference?

The UK spread false info about Trump.
Russia spread true info about Hillary.
    Which is worse?

Yet, check this out -- Trump is all chummy with the leader of a hostile foreign power that meddled in our elections.
    Where is the outrage?!

Initial jobless claims in the last week tumbled to 207,000 (vs 220K est)

This is the lowest level of claims since November 1969 (when The Beatles' "Abbey Road" album was #1 in the US)

Not sure what any of that has to do with Russian girls' butts, but I'm not complaining about that.

It's a more attractive version of the "Russia, Russia, Russia" meme than old pictures of Jan Brady.

The latest Rasmussen Polling shows Trump's job approval ticked up a point to 45-54, or basically the same as the week before the meeting with Putin. In other words, this latest liberal freak out changed nothing
    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/

And latest CBS polling shows 68% of Republicans approve of Trump meeting with Putin

Like I said in the other thread, Americans do not care about foreign policy.

Let's just be honest. 90 percent of Americans just don't have the attention span to understand foreign policy on even a superficial level.

The more likely explanation is demonstrated here, rather than "foreign affairs is just too hard"

I don't think it's that they don't care so much as that for the most part, Americans are more concerned with living a good life than they are about conforming to an international community that's largely separated by two oceans and does not seem particularly concerned with our day-to-day well-being so much as how our behavior offends their sensibilities.

For the most part, we've been blessed by God and geography to enjoy a situation where global issues just don't impact us that much except in trade and immigration. And since it's difficult to understand how the nuanced impacts of global trade impact our weekly grocery bills (or other expenses), that will never have a big impact on voters unless you can provide a clear, basic concept that says in general, "if this happens, then it's a good/bad thing for us." When you think about it, when was the last time that something happened overseas that the average American would say impacted their day-to-day life, that didn't involve us sending troops to address?

I know that there will be some in our country who do not pay attention but how many?
Surely most people will see through all this faux bs.
    It does get so old.
And sometimes it seems like so many people are getting so much face time from that loon from NY to the other loon from NY, Schumer to Maxine etc etc etc to idiot Hollywood all spouting lies and inanities that make good sound bites.
Will there be enough people thinking they are in bad situations because of the Gov't that they will get out and vote for people like Ocasio-Cortez, ( herefter referrred to OCD)?

For me, this phenomenon defines the last two years. Trump says or does something stupid or at least worthy of resonable criticism. But instead of leveling reasonable criticism, the Left decides to outflank him on the stupidity side. They dish out wild hyperbole and hypocrisy.

Hell, Politico has called the Russian interference an act of war on a level with Pearl Harbor. Do people realize how thoroughly idiotic and insane that is? Those acts warranted regime change and death of the bad actors. What if Trump followed that logic? He'd launch strikes on the Kremlin that would have to be followed up by an invasion of Russia that would literally require millions of troops, which means a military draft. We'd have to pull millions of woke college ******* out of their dorm rooms, beat them until they grow a pair and are willing to kill, and send them to a battlefield in Eastern Europe to fight and die in a war led by Donald Trump. If he did that, would these hacks really support his actions? Hell no. Would Hillary do something like that had she won? It's comical to even consider such a thing.

So true. I get WAPO headlines pushed to me and it seems like they have a daily rush to see which of their writers can turn whatever happened anywhere in the world into a Trump-negative headline in some fashion. It is as if they are competing for a $25 Amazon discount code chosen daily by Jeff himself.

We discussed this on this board the entire republican primary. The “Trump Effect” has never made any sense. Instead of just burying him with what he says, the media always goes into some ridiculous hyperbole that no one can take seriously. Once people stop taking the hyperbole seriously, they stop taking the actual bad thing Trump said seriously as well. It is the strangest damn thing, and I have no answer for it. I also cannot figure out why those that hate Trump cannot figure this out other than they truly believe their hyperbolic delusions.

They may truly believe their delusions. Much to my suprise, I did have an otherwise reasonable anti-Trump friend tell me two days ago that Trump was going to start handing Americans over to Putin to go to Siberian gulags. I could only respond “You sound like you are saying that the russians are putting flouride in our water to corrupt our precious bodily fluids.”

On another note, I still cannot belive you think there would be a conventional war with Russia and not a nuclear holocaust. There is no need to rehash it, but it floors me about as much as I assume my Nikki Haley opinions floor you.

They do it to amp up the Democratic base, which does believe in the delusions. They desperately want a blue wave in 2018, and that won't happen if the base isn't motivated.

This is no different than Trump claiming his illegal immigration stance is to stop MS-13 "infestation" which is .09% of illegal immigration. A recent poll showed >50% of the Republican base is now scared of MS-13 impacting their daily lives.

All sides use hyperbole to fire up their base.

It's not just MS-13. There are a lot of illegal gangs and cartel members here in America. They ARE affecting people's daily lives in America. Many studies show illegals are committing crimes on a level twice as high as a legal citizen.

@Seattle Husker I agree with your post. Trump absolutely exaggerates which is the source problem, so this is just a nitpick, but, if they are coming across illegally, how do we know what % of them are anything?

I would argue 100% of them commit a crime. After all, they are ILLEGAL aliens.

I agree that both sides use hyperbole to fire up the base. I don't agree that the MS-13 issue is primarily about the base. The lawlessness, economic competition, and welfare/social costs of illegal immigration are more than enough to fire up the base.

The MS-13 issue plays a similar role to the family separation issue for the Left. It may fire up the base, but that is a secondary benefit. The primary goal behind the MS-13 issue is to attract suburban mothers. The GOP knows those voters have problems with Trump's style, but they're hoping they will overlook those problems if the GOP will help protect them and their children from violence. Of course, the Left hopes those voters will focus more on their opposition to families being separated than on personal safety.

About 40 percent of them are visa overstays. That not a crime. It should be, but it's not.
