Who are some other o-lineman that we are pursuing because we certainly need a few more? And what is their level of interest?

10.34 that's blazing fast I believe. This team is already pretty fast. Jimmy Johnson built his teams on speed. Seems like a good blueprint. The faster the better. Hope we get this guy.:smokin:
Does Herman know what to do with that?

If you recall this Cain-realted post from above, 5-star RB John Emery committed to Georgia over LSU. Big weekend for Georgia. So, even though we just made Cain's top 6^, he is considered an LSU lean now.

Yep...first thing I thought of with Cain yesterday. We may still be in the lead, but Emery to Georgia doesn't help.
Wow, a HUGE weekend for Georgia.

Whatever happens in recruiting for '19, it is real nice to be up battling with the big dogs and in the fight. Better to be us right now than A LOT of teams out there. And like we always say...if more wins come, we will be an absolute beast on the recruiting trail...already are a real menace (and not a phantom one).

Besides Coker^, we already have committed OTs Tyler Johnson and Javonne Shepherd. We are still after Stacy Wilkins (but he seems all about ou) and Kenyon Green (he is eaten up with the aggy). Chris Akporoghene also already committed to the little ut.

Of the additional names we know about, that leaves Katy’s Cole Birmingham (OSU), Odessa Permian’s Landon Peterson (Baylor), Oklahoman Eli Russ (OSU), a big Canadian named Matteo Kucinic and an OT at Blinn now named Travis Arroyo (from Pflugerville originally) who works out now with UT-ex Tim Crowder.

I dont know what Herb Hand thinks of any of these latter names and we probably wont know until the Fall. Plus, there will always be additional JUCO evals done once their seasons are done or nearly done (we dont seem to be as afraid of getting JUCOs in as we used to be). We will probably take 2-3 interior guys this class. Hand does seem to prefer to recruit mobile high school OTs for the whole line, figure out which ones can handle outside, and move the others inside. He also has a history of moving guys around a lot and cross training positions. To me, bottom line, our 2019 OL class is already a success for Hand with Johnson and Shepherd (2020 will be a different story though, IMO).

Check out this pic of them together. Shepherd is a pretty big guy

Joe, I've got a few names that pop up here and there, but I've been busy and had a hard time staying organized. Can you bring to light a short list of our best remaining '19 options at WR?

Landing Johnson and Shepherd is great. Is it enough? Hand missed on high 4-star Branson Bragg, 5-star Kenyon Green, 5-star Kardell Thomas and probably has missed on high 4-star Stacey Wilkins. So, while the 2018 OL class is not done, it been hit and miss for our top targets. We might still pry Coker away from TCU (he is "a project" but has rare size/agility combo). Plus, as mentioned above, we are still going to add 2-3 more (I think) but the longer we wait, the harder it will be with committed guys like Coker and the others named. So, I think Hand, with a year under his belt to develop relationships, will need to pick it up in 2020. IMO, as a program, we are still light quality OL depth.

    ---------------
ps -- Here is one JUCO OL we are looking Bamidele Olaseni. He is large (6'8,330) and moves well, esp for a guy who did not play football until he landed in the US. Born in England, he grew up playing soccer and track & field. He somehow ended up at Garden City CC in Kansas. His offer list is Ark, KSU, Nebraska, Okie St.

It sort of a perfect storm for them this year with a terrific in-state class. The state of Georgia has seven 5-stars this year (Texas has just 3). And they are taking full advantage following their NC.

A JUCO DL on our radar is Soni Fonua (6'4,265). He went to the same school as Junior Angilau. But he NQd and went to Mesa Community College in Arizona where he had a very good freshmen season and now he will graduate in Dec. His film looks pretty good. He has offers from FAU and Louisville so far.

Overall, we have made offers to two JUCO DLs -- Jacoby Jones and Jermaine Johnson. Johnson is the top ranked JUCO player for now and they say he is leaning towards ............ Georgia, of course. Who isnt these days?

    QUESTION:
Scout shows 7 - 5 star and top 40 are at least 4 star. Texas has three five - star and 42 at least 4 star. Was somewhat similar last year (helps to explain UGA step up in recruiting).
Texas has almost 3 times as many people and is thought of as a hot bed for HS football. What explains this situation? Has Scout just sold out to the SEC or does Georgia produce top HS players at a rate greater than 3 to 1?

A snippet from Eric Nahlin (IT) on recent commit MARCUS TILLMAN --

".... They see me playing on the edge, or I can play man coverage so I will be like a hybrid.”

Texas is recruiting more and more of these athletes to fit Orlando's ideals of six DBs, one or two that can also play LB, on the field at once. The counter-measure to Big 12 offenses perhaps.

This verbal pledge happened fast. But why so quick?

“It was everything," said the former Florida pledge. "Coach Orlando’s system, plus the coaches coached my cousin (Josh Burrell) at Houston so we already had a connection. The atmosphere and the facilities are awesome.”

Clemson and Florida really liked this kid, but spots filled up. UT will have to stay on top of him if/when he breaks out in 2018. Getting him the #fUTure19 group text was step No. 1."

California has more people than Texas plus a lot of good football players too, and they have only two 5-stars for 2019 (Bru McCoy is one of them). Like I said above, this year is the perfect storm for the Dawgs and they are cleaning up.

I admit seeing them execute so well right now makes me a little jealous, thinking back to where we were at one time but chunked it. Alas, bygones, bygones.

Here is TFB on 2019 LB recruiting. I think we are going to take several more.

Quick Hitters | Linebacker Recruiting – Andrew King

There have been some questions in regards to linebacker recruiting in 2019. It’s a down year in the state of Texas at the position. Though Texas did land a Top five outside linebacker early in the process in De’Gabriel Floyd from California as well as Jones (FL) OLB Marcus Tillman Jr this past weekend. Here are some quick notes…

    – The main linebacker in the state of Texas in 2019 is Cinco Ranch’s David Gbenda. He was expected to visit Texas this weekend, but it sounds like plans have changed. He will now likely be at TCU. The Horned Frogs have made this a 3-horse race between Texas-Texas A&M-TCU. We’ll see how things look after this weekend.

Gbenda isn’t expected to make a decision until December, but Texas would’ve liked to get him in this weekend. He will be back in Austin for an official visit during the season regardless.

    – Remember, we noted that Texas is in a better spot than most believed with Punahou (HI) Inside Linebacker Maninoa Tufono. Texas is in the Top 5 along with LSU, Washington, USC, and UCLA. I’ve heard that Washington and USC are the main competition for Texas here.

With regard to oline recruiting, our needs are for about 4 to 5 high school guys and about 1 or 2 Juco/Grad transfer guys.

We have our bookend OTs in Tyler and Shepherd. I'm okay with holding out for 2 more guys that come on strong during their senior year. However we need to get those Juco guys in.

For me Ideally I'd like for Texas to keep what we have and add two more interior guys from high school and 2 juco guys.

Really we probably need more, we have 13 offensive linemen on scholarship, we are going to lose 4 guys to graduation, it would be nice to replace them with bigger numbers. Ideally 8 would be excellent but I don't want unbalanced classes, what we need is much more balance in our classes thus I'd like about 6 in this class and maybe then get a Grad transfer to fill in the last two spots for a 16 man unit. Eventually we will build up a base of offensive linemen that we will have about 18 guys in our system. To me that is the ideal number.
