Urban Meyer put on paid leave

^this^ is about all that needs to be said, but....
I'll add a couple more things....
1. The whole Ohio State smokescreen/rebuttal/excuse etc is that Courtney Smith is looney and her mom even says so, BUT...texts from her mom to her and to Zach were found to include innuendos themselves to abuse with phrases like "don't you hurt her" or but "don't touch her anymore" and while Courtney's mom vividly remembers a myriad of other useful details she conveniently cannot recall placing these texts or why that would be in them
2. Both of Zach's drinking and driving incidents were reduced and swept away by a prominent tosu "foundation"/some kind of board member and booster who is a judge.
3. The school has been notified and is now currently under investigation for issues related to sexual misconduct involving the wrestling team
4.This Snook guy towing the line for tosu is an obvious tool of epic proportion
5. Zack Smith
6. Seems like everyone from judges to other coaches to the Herman's to friends to family to police to Mrs. Meyer and insiders and reporters from Ohio to Florida knew of the issues with Zack.....but Urban was in the dark?

 

It is more troublesome to me that Meyer "retired, Smith moves on to another job. Then Meyer, with full knowledge (which he originally denied) hires him again in Columbus. You can make arguments that Earl Bruce made that a condition o his getting the job? If Earl Bruce has that much stroke in Ohio, who is pulling his strings?

This all points to there being some powerful people behind the scenes overseeing that cesspool. Media is focusing on the wrong people, and should be exposing the puppeteers.

Duke, I'll stand down (because I've ranted way too much and it's not healthy) but I'll close with saying that Title IX is over reach and a problem. Equal scholarships for women, great, making everyone else's problem your problem because they work for you, bs. You make valid points based on the rules in question, I'm questioning the rules.

Zuck, you are justified to question the rules. It’s political correctness gone wild. Guilty until proven innocent. The accused being banished without due process. (What country is this anyway?) Boys can’t be boys anymore...and that may be the intent. To neuter them.

But that said, Meyer probably has an above average level of intelligence. What was he thinking with respect to the (at least) 9 year Zach Smith saga?

Be careful, this was brought to you by the woman that has openly espoused that football should only have 15-20 scholarships because, "only eleven can play at one time".

 

The amazing thing is how they (the idealistic feminists involved with big-time college sports) can completely ignore the revenue generated by the football programs and how they are the undisputed king of cash relative to the other sports. Doesn't the Longhorn Network throw-off at least $5 million per year to the university general fund?

Another stat that'll probably keep him employed at Ohio State is a record of 73-8 over 6 seasons (basically 12-1 every year), 47-3 in conference (basically 8-0 every year, and oh yeah a national championship. They fire this guy over title IX, the college football world is going to shake.....

Of course they have. They are mentally ill. That is the only thing you can say about people like that. I like to talk about these things but there is not one sports franchise that could fail even if they were jobbed by someone that would make me lose sleep. Not one. Anywhere.

 

Unless they have proof that Meyer affected how people dealt with the potential violence (BUT they DID find he did not go through the appropriate reporting procedures), if I were the tOSU board, I'd suspend Meyer for a year without pay and put him through extensive Title IX training. Help him create an odeal program for Title IX and come out winners.

I don't think every poor choice merits a trip to the guillotine. I'd still want him as my head coach. Also, I'm sure more investigation will occur...if anything more is found out, you can let him go then.

Anything Meyer puts together on ethics will be seen on the comic pages of the newspaper.

 

He could consult for Florida Title IX compliance as well....

 

I'm hoping you meant that if they found he affected how people dealt with the allegations of potential violence, THEN he'd be suspended a year without pay, Title IX bs, etc etc. Otherwise, he should not only keep his job but people should recognize the process worked and should move on to more pressing matters....

 

I've gone back and forth on this, but here's where I am personally, for what it's worth.
Urban Meyers contract with tosu contains very specific wording regarding his obligations in matters of relationship/domestic violence and a plethora of other matters (and as they relate to TitleIX responsibility).
He violated these requirements by not reporting the 2015 incident(s), whether they were proven or not.
There is also pretty compelling evidence that he rehired him knowing of the incidents/allegations going back to Florida. And he stated that it was "hard" to release Mr.Smith even after more information on Smith became clear and Meyer was caught in a lie.
I repeat.. he was caught in a lie - a lie that directly violates the stated TitleIX and general requirements spelled out in his contract.
I believe that the integrity and priorities of tosu must come into question if he is let off lightly. I'm not a huge fan of TitleIX by any means, but if the NCAA cares about it, they should be concerned with this outcome, as ignoring TitleIX requirements contained in a contract (which shouldnt be necessary since they are binding regardless) would undermine as a precedent future cases....not legally, but in the court of public perception and accountability.
Seems pretty straightforward that Meyer violated the requirements of his contract...and TitleIX. Am I missing something here?

Two attorneys,one a proffeser of sports law at Pepperdine who happens to be a woman, and another with 25 years of experience in the field say Title IX is a non issue here. Why is this so hard to understand? If Meyer gets fired, which he won't, it will be for violating the morals clause in his contract not freaking Title IX.

 

I believe the BOR is supposed to announce their findings today... will the other shoe drop with UM?

 

I understand your point. I think the reason may be the wording in his contract...which seems to link his contractural obligations to Title IX loosely but not clearly (the obligations could be interpreted to stand on their own). I should have worded my post differently....to make this clearer.
I'll try and go dig that up....but it will be over soon anyway!
My larger point was....if the school is to maintain their integrity (or perception of it) then they must either hold Meyer accountable for violating the terms or -as our dialogue has brought to light- act as though the wording in his contract isn't what it appears to be. This would change nothing, integrity--wise, but give them a PR angle out.

 

Whatever happens here....one thing is obvious. They have a pretty well oiled PR machine up there (and this is making no presupposition of guilt either).
...And that Snook is a great lap-pup. Reporter/insider my butt...nothing more than a low-grade PR pawn.

Sorry. I edited to clarify. If he actually had an effect on due process for the alleged behaviors he should be fired. If they found he didn't interfere at all, he just didn't follow the established policies & procedures for reporting...I think that merits suspension but not termination.

We'll have Meyer drop in mid-morning, a few timely press releases sprinkled throughout the day, and Meyer's wife making an appearance mid-afternoon. Our alumni network is doing their part, and our weasel Snook will aid them as needed to fend off McMurphy or any other opposition forces that will surely rear their heads during the day. We need to come up with a few scapegoats and find a couple other rabbit holes the media can chase. We'll tease and then delay the...ehem.. results of our findings during the day to add to the aura of seriousness. Should be a good day. Now let's get to..hughhm...work shall we..."
