I just saw Nick Rose kicking for Washington. Had no idea he was in the NFL. Guess I underappreciated his ability the last few years. Texas is KU (Kicker U.) with Rose, Justin Tucker and Phil Dawson kicking.

I think we've been downgrated to Kicker JUCO. :brickwall:

but yes, Dawson is a god in regards to fg kicking---didn't he beat UVA with a kick on the final play like 30 years ago????:smile1:

His first game was against Philly this past Sunday. Still surprising.

Ummm, no. "Terrible" is a grossly hyperbolic description of Nick's time here.

Extra points were an adventure. And in the Shaun Watson era, extra points were doubly important. But the guy could kick a backflip field goal! Practice time well spent.

Dusty Mangum deserves a mention in all-time Texas kickers:

3rd in points scored at Texas, 1st among kickers.
School record 121 consecutive PATs made. He also owns the second-longest streak.
And if his 42-yard kick hadn't won the Rose Bowl, I'm not sure we'd've had the same mojo going into 2005.

Not a transcendent talent, but a model of consistency. You want that in a kicker.

50 yards, into a moderate wind.

I was there, too. That was an awesome kick and it was into a stiff wind.

    O.G., here.

Yes, it was a time of college still allowing a tee for field goal attempts, and missed FGs out of the end zone came out only to the 20, not the point of the kick, ....but.... 1977 UT Rice game, mid 3rd quarter game far out of reach (ended at 72-15).

4th down, Horns scrimmage at the 50. FG holder is placing the tee at the 43. The TEXAS 43. Erxleben kicks a 67 yarder.

Never forget seeing a FG holder put his knee down getting ready at his own 43 yard line.

Oh, and a decade earlier, the all-time, all-NAME kicking duo EVER, Texas punter Scooter Monzingo and PK Happy Feller.
