There's a big difference between should starts because he's awesome and should starts because he's the one eyed man in the room with the blind.

No one yet has given a plausible explanation as the why KP got the starts and carries he did. He's finally where he belongs, 4th string and behind 2 newcomers. Based on what I saw last year Tim Yoder woulda been a better choice than KP. At least he could break an arm tackle.

I agree with Malik, certainly never lived up to the hype and bailed out in his team, school and fans for the bowl game.

For one, he was the one guy who could/would block in an offense where the line leaked like a sieve.

..... and now you have doomed the entire TE depth chart. Somewhere a room full of guys just started rubbing their knees.

Can we ever get to game 1 without losing one or more TEs due to injury? Some teams bring 3-4 TEs in short yardage situations. I have TE envy. We're not going to run the ball without a TE. We need a TE to catch the ball in traffic on 3rd and 5-10. We need a TE who can do both so they don't know what we're going to do because we are substituting.

    I have TE envy.

Colt McCoy started 53 games at Texas from 2006-09. Colt '09 was the last time we had a QB start every game in a single regular season

Here are the QB starts since --
    David Ash 22
    Shane Buechele 19
    Case McCoy 16
    Tyrone Swoopes 14
    Garrett Gilbert 14
    Jerrod Heard 10
    Sam Ehlinger 6

    Record: 53-48

Very nice ring, as rings go
Made me wonder how big and shiny the one for our next MNC will be

    On the OL --

Calvin Anderson is the starting LT (Denzel Okafor is the back up)

Herman says C, LG and RG “solidified” (Kerstetter and Okafor getting reps at OG while Kerstetter and Rodriguez are getting reps at center.)

There is still a battle at RT between Cosmi and Kerstetter

“He’s throwing the ball a lot better. He’s sitting in the pocket much more comfortably. Let’s make no mistake, Shane Buechele had a great camp. He didn’t really anything wrong… it was just a matter of who do we feel feels gives you the best chance to win.”

“It wouldn’t be a rotation. There is a scenario if things aren’t going well then we can throw Shane in there for a spark but we’re certainly not going to guarantee that.”

According to Herman, Rising isn’t far behind.

Word is that both Buechele and Rising are "superior passers."
But the offense is supposed to be geared towards more running this season behind a better OL. And Ehlinger is improved as a passer but also poses a legit running threat

Rising is getting some run too. They say he "stands in the pocket and he can put the ball wherever he wants to."

    The RBs --

First Group: Daniel Young, Tre Watson, and Keaontay Ingram.

Second Group: Kyle Porter and Toneil Carter

Third Group: Kirk Johnson and Tristian Houston

Likely play three backs against Maryland

With Rising continuing to show up in these conversations this early in his development, seems very possible he could emerge within the next year--ish. ...Unless RJ comes in and blows it all up, that is.

The fact that we are even having this conversation is very satisfying. Instead of the arguments over who will save us next year, we have two experienced and capable QBs, a true frosh pushing for PT, and a high school kid waiting in the wings.

    My how things have changed

So far, it looks like our schedule has us playing 5 teams with first year QBs:

    USC
    TCU
ou (I guess he is considered first year)
    OSU
    TTech

Texas senior CB Kris Boyd asked tonight after practice what makes him believe the offense will be better this year:

“They’re making me madder. When the offense scores (in practice), I get frustrated.”

I said this after spring ball, every position on offense is better and with more depth: WR, TE, RB, QB, and OL (still needs improvement here).

IF Rising starts over a senior who has been starting, it would obviously mean either he is the real deal...or what we have continues to muddle.
I am of the opinion that what we have won't stay muddling and for Rising, RJ, or Thompson to take the reins early will mean that they took it by force. This is one very good reason to be excited about this team that we haven't seen in a looong time. It's what competition in the QB room does. If someone takes the job away...we win. If the guy currently under center is too good for a crowded, and talented, QB room to knock off...we win. We win either way.
I realize I'm not the first one to say all this...but it's just so fun to say!
I'll add that lack of ^this^ is the main thing I believe cost Mack his job. Go back and watch the Alamo Bowl vs Oregon for exhibit A.

Herman was asked how much the offense has improved based on the recent scrimmage?

“We scored touchdowns, and scored touchdowns against our No. 1 defense, which those were very few and far between last year.”
