My criticism was that the coaches fail to put SB in when he should be in. Examples being after Sam has a concussion and is throwing it out of bounds or is throwing a lot of picks or it is a clear long passing situation. My criticism was not of Sam in general, but that when it was clear Sam was having problems or we need the better downfield passer (concussion, picks, 3rd or 4th & long, end of the game and have to pass), the coaches failed to put SB in. If Sam just had a concussion, did it make sense to bring him in for back to back 3rd and 4th and long passing plays against OU? No. Did it make sense to stick with him when he was clearly having a bad day against Tech? No. I would not have pulled him against Okie State or USC. I am talking about when he clearly should have been pulled (OU & Tech), the coaches stuck with him and took the loss. Mack Brown was not afraid to make the right call and pull Vince Young for Chance Mock in 2003 against Texas Tech and 2004 against Missouri. Vince Young’s development was not hindered and Mock saved the day for two wins. It is better to put SB in if SE is hurt or having a freshman or sophomore brain fart game (VY had them). Everyone does not need to rush to criticize SB or defend SE’s honor. If SE is having a bad game or a concussion, I do not trust our coaches to put SB in, and it will lead to losses again.
