Anyone else think he may be a bit out of position at LB? IMO don't think he's quite quick or agile enough in space to shine at that position. Would love to see him back with his hand in the dirt at DE. I think that may also help with our lack of QB pressure.
Completely agree. He seems to have gained some weight and looks like a DL to me. I’m eager to see Adeoye once he’s healthy. BTW, McCulloch looked pretty good to me last night.
I think he is at LB due to how thin we are there. I think Herman alluded to this in his post game comments. It shouldn't hurt his draft stock, I'm pretty sure he will be back for his senior year so he will probably be featured as the strong side DE next season.
I think our DEs/OLBs are enigmas for me. Obviously our defense is effective on the whole, but I don't get these guys' primary roles, ways to be excellent. So I can't speak to this.
Broken foot is going to keep him out 6-8 weeks which would mean he could be back as early as Okie Lite on 10/27. We are getting very thin at LB.... I rather he play DE and rush, but can # 44 play some LB?
Roach played as a true freshman. B backer is kinda like a DE except a little more pass coverage responsibilities. With 5 dbs and rover lb with db speed, I think you may need some bulk at b backer. It is kinda interesting that the top 2 names on the depth chart at b backer were recruited at DE and the 2 rush ends were recruited as linebackers.
Getting into Big 12 play the need for size at linebacker takes a back seat to getting more speed on the field. Right now to me the biggest loss is Overshown, he could have been an impact guy as a linebacker with his ability to cover backs out of the backfield. I have a feeling we are going to be seeing a lot of 6 Dbs this week and against Oklahoma (sucks) in a couple weeks. I think it's time for our coaches to teach our young guys how to not tackle high and get kicked out of games. Losing BJ could be a huge blow to our defense this week. Anyone have any clue to our depth chart for this week? This might be the week we need someone to step up on defense.
I see from the Gamenotes on Texassports.com that McCulloch will move over from second team mac to start as bbacker with Ossai remaining the backup. Adeoye will back up Wheeler in the middle. https://s3.amazonaws.com/texassports_com/documents/2018/9/17/2018_Texas_Football_Notes_04_TCU.pdf
I have felt this way for a while and was a little surprised that so many people who supposedly know what they're talking about thought that he had side to side speed and had displayed that ability all through the spring. It made me wonder what we were running on offense that wouldn't expose a guy who clearly can't keep up with an RB in the flat - and had shown that to be the case last year! I remember several games last year when he clearly could not close on a play to the outside, and yet I kept hearing the OB staff raving about his speed and ability to cover. I think FWIW they're coming around on this, and I'm hoping McCullough steps in and just lights it up (which I think he will) and renders the whole question moot.
