Left click on image above to get full sized image, especially with regard to the actual score.
I am in Denver and won't be back in Texas until mid October, sadly missing the 50th anniversary of my first OU game (who out there remembers Youngblood's Fried Chicken??).
I will post some scoreboard pics then. And when we beat OU, I expect to see scoreboard pics!!!

    Hook EM!!!!

TEXAS - ou game 50 years ago was 1968.

Also my first year to attend THAT series - went with my late Father - UT Business Grad 1949.

Jimmuh Street rallied the team and engineered a late winning drive as the Horns won 26-20 and IIRC with Steve Worster diving into the end zone for the winning TD.

And yes, I remember Youngblood's Chicken... Mmmmm!

my first ou game was the 1984 tie. it rained and rained and then rained some more.....I remember walking to the restrooms right before halftime and Teltschik (barefoot punter from Kerrville) punted and for whatever reason the crowd was very quiet, and as it sailed well over 60 yards in the air both sets of fans either cheered or ooohed and aahed over the magnificent punt in those soggy conditions...also can't recall the running back's name but he could run a 4.4 when that was real fast, in the downpour went left side sweep for 50+ and made it all the way to the two (got caught from behind). We were chanting "OU sucks" as they lined up 4 straight times on the two and did not score. After the 4th stop 3 OU defensive players trotted over to our section and gave us the bird and turned and trotted over to their sideline....#1 vs #2, my VERY FIRST Texas football game! 1984 TX-OU and I'll never forget it......Texas wouldn't play as the #1 team in the country again until 2006......22 years.....

Yes! Kevin Nelson! I met him once in the 90s and I asked him "why did you let them catch you and he said 'I didn't know they were that close'"....thanks Worster, what a day that was....Jeff Ward will always talk about Switzer soaking the football before the game-tying kick.....says when he kicked it it felt like he was kicking a brick......got the ball after the kick and said it was fully soaked like it was in a bucket....

I woke up that morning, looked out the window of The Longhorn Suite at The Fairmont, and it was pouring. I called Alvin Lubetkin (sp) at home in Houston and told him I needed two rain suits. He had the manager of the NorthPark Oshman's meet me outside the door of the mall at 730 and give me two rainsuits. Kept us totally dry in the upper deck, except for my hands and the tip of my boots.

The following Saturday, we played Arkansas in Austin. Got to my seats in Memorial Stadium, took out my binoculars, and it was like the old promo for "Up Periscope" - my binoculars were half full of water.

Occasionally I will run into an oldtimer from the Dust Bowl at The State Fair, who was there that day, and he will ask me a question, then turn to his friends and say, "this is the guy I told y'all about that hijacked the DART bus that got us out of Fair Park after dark.

Lots of history here on HornFans…..have to remember in our debates that some here have seen more Longhorn football in their lives than I, love it as much as I, and are just as passionate as I.....Hook 'Em to all.....
