Has anyone kept tabs on which freshman have played so far and how many games? I have not, except for a few obvious ones (26, 7, 25)
But I would love to know. Very curious how Coach Herman will use the new rule.

Not sure, but I am sure several on here will ridicule, joke about binders, and Mensa, and second guess the second year HC.

Hell yeah cause TH earned those second guesses. But perhaps he is becoming a better HC. I hope so. Beating OK and TCU says alot.

Perhaps he is establishing a culture. Man it’s taken way too long huh?

Back on track, who has a games played tracker for freshmen? Anybody?

I think Burnt Orange Nation had a write up last week. I saw one somewhere.

I visited the participation chart after the OU game.
2018 Football Cumulative Statistics - Texas Athletics
    Some observations:
Our junior quarterback hasn't taken a snap and can probably redshirt if he wants. Played as a true frosh because we desperately needed him to. He could transfer with two years of eligibility or could be the heady coach on the sidelines ready for emergency duty two more years.
Roach played in 3 games before his injury. He can play one more and still redshirt.
Denzel Oakafor played as a true frosh and since he's taken snaps in only one game, he can redshirt.
Porter can redshirt and transfer with 2 years of eligibility if he remains inactive. Chisolm as a DL has not played and could shirt as a senior to transfer. I doubt he would crack the two deep here in 2019 given the massive talent in our redshirt class.

Among the true frosh, we still have most shirts available in the lines but not so much at the skill position.

Eagles would have to stop now to keep a year of eligibility at WR and Joshua Moore and DeShawn Jamison have played every game. Woodard hasn't played and probably wants to shirt.

Burt is a senior two sport guy but has only played in one football game. If he wanted another year of football eligibility, we could arrange for it and we could still use him in 3 games if we need his size, speed and fresh legs.

None of the four OTs we signed have played. Reese, Christian, Ghirmai and Angilau are likely to redshirt. Likewise with DL Coburn, Ojomo, Williams and Carson. Looks like the class of 2018's beefy guys won't be big kids thrown in against grown men, borrowing a phrase Herman used to describe Kerstetter's situation last year.

Among linebackers, Ossai has played in every game and Overshown has played in 2. Not sure if Overshown wants to shirt or not, but as a fifth year senior he might be scary has hell in the rover spot.

At LB Ayode (who looks like a man) and Vaughns have not played, though the former is listed as second on the depth chart and would no doubt charge into action should something happen to Wheeler. I'm guessing Herman really wants to give Ayode a redshirt, because it stands to reason Wheeler could have used a breather or two this season.

The Super Frosh DBs are mostly playing … a lot. Jalen Green could still shirt, but he's played 3 games. Sterns, Foster, Cook have played in every game.

Does CCG's and bowl games count towards the 4?

I think all college games count. One guy I didn't mention is TE Malcom Epps. He's a tall guy with basketball skills. He has not played in 2018. Can't wait too see OUs Smurf defensive backs bouncing off him for the next 4 years.

Thanks Crockett. That is what I would have thought. After Texas becomes bowl eligible (hopefully this weekend), the number of games to keep the shirt reduces to 3, and as long as Texas is in contention for the Big XII title game that number reduces to 2. So, most of the freshmen who they want to shirt probably will not play until the Iowa State and Kansas games.

Great team management by Herman. We have three or four areas of attrition concern:
    (1) OL - Anderson, Vahe, and ERod all gone - we have some decent OL depth but losing 3 of 5 starters is rough
    (2) DL - Hager, Nelson, and Omenihu all gone - losing the entire starting D line sucks and the backups seem to be at least a step behind these guys
    (3) linebackers - Wheeler and Gary Johnson - Dele and Ossai may be good fits for Wheeler's spot but Gary is going to be hard to replace
    (4) -maybe- WR - if Collin Johnson and LJ go pro early - neither Eagles, nor Burt has shown enough to replace these guys as our big WRs. We should be fine at slot.

Two off seasons and hopefully 4 games under their belts will be huge for addressing these concerns, especially at O and D line.

On the OL and the DL we better hope several big guys step up like Cosmi has done this year. True frosh Scott will be the highest rated lineman we've landed in years and maybe he is so good he steps into the starting lineup. He's projected to be so good we'd be damned lucky to have him on campus four years anyway.

I'm very hopeful for Overshown and newcomer Floyd at rover next year. There may be. Juco help on the way there too.

We can probably get another grad transfer for the Oline too.

Looking at the redshirt situation at WR Eagles now has played in five games.

At DB Green has played four games and Overshown 3. Looks like they are in rotation to play some every game if healthy.

Shane and Burt can play three more and still redshirt as upperclassmen and Oakafor can too. Rowland and Chisolm haven't played as seniors so they could conceivably come back here or go somewhere to finish up or start a grad degree if they are interested in more football.
