I get bored playing Kansas, Tech, and baylor while in SEC you get to play Alabama, LSU, Aggies, Florida, which is bigger fanbases!!! Or the PAC 12 thats all
I feel ya....there's also rumors that the Big 10 contract is up in the next couple of years....the $ and academics are a positive for Texas...
matt, Whose idea was it for A&M to move to the SEC? Hint: He has NEVER lived in Brazos County, nor has he ever been associated with Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College. Hint #2: He announced it to a few insiders in the mid 80s.
If I'm not mistaken, OP's username is similar to the guy who, about a month ago, said a Texas vs. A&M revival would be the best rivalry in college athletics. Also, A&M is the only school referred to by their mascot. Kinda stands out, don't you think? "which is bigger fanbases" I'm not sure what part of that grammar to correct first. Oh wait...he's an aggie. That explains a lot. Aggie trying to troll. Ignore, move on...
Let's see if he gets more poops for this elementary effort than he got for the last one. Let's also see if he ******* out and deletes his own thread this time too.
I have thought for some time that we would have to lower our academic standards to join the SEC, but then I thought that might repulse Fenves so badly that he might resign. For those interested, I shall host a cheerleading session tomorrow to learn how to most effectively chant "SEC, SEC. SEC"
I would be interested in seeing A&M's reaction if we joined the SEC...."Don't like them"...."Hey, look, new kid in the neighborhood, someone should beat them up"....
Aggy is stuck in sec sec sec hell. I don’t think Vince Lombardi in his prime could coach them into the sec title game as long as they ‘re in the West . Mizzou lucked out & got the East, which is winnable. The B XII is ok for now. Our games are certainly more entertaining than watching say Bama vs LSU or Jarja vs Kentucky. I’ll bet another big shake up is coming. We’ll see how it plays out.
Notice he didnt say it was a big deal to play aggy. Even aggy knows their place whether willing to admit it or not.
I have sure noticed a lot trollish first time or <25 posts posters lately. I guess they are flocking here because UT is winning again and Shaggy (aka sanctuary of the trolls) is dead?
I want out of the Big 12, but I don't want to join the SEC and their major cheating asses. There are 4 slots in the playoffs, joining the SEC puts another blue blood in a conference full of blue bloods trying to get into one or two slots. I'll take my chances in a conference where we are going to try and land in 1 of the 2 or 3 slots. SEC has Georgia, Bama, Tennessee, LSU, but who the hell wants to travel to places like collyville, Baton Rogue, Arkansas, Mississippi, or South Carolina. I've lived in SC and I'd love to go back and visit Charleston, or Clemson, North Augusta, but Columbia sucks, Georgia is cool, Florida is good, But damn, I ain't going to any those other states. Give me ACC schools, or Pac schools or even B1G schools. A step down in competition but you get to go to some damn nice cities.
For me, it's more important for Texas' opportunity to get into the CFP from the conference they're in. Maybe a conference where you have one marquee game each year with another traditional power, two or three others that pop up now and then in the top 10, some bottom dwellers, then schedule OOCs from the cream of the other conferences. Uh, kind of, I don't know, the Big 12? Texas just needs to win. Whatever conference they're in. If so, they're in. If Texas has a problem with football right now, and for the few prior years, it ain't the conference. It's Texas' W/L record.
"Go West young man......." Horace Greeley The SEC while it is alleged to be the best conference, has fan bases that are a bunch of hick bumpkins. That's why aggy fits in so well. The PAC 12 might be a better fit. My personal favorite, if UT jumps ship, is the Big 10.
OK, if we're taking the aggie's post seriously (yeah, yeah, I know...) As many have mentioned, the SEC isn't a good cultural fit. On top of that, it already has 14 teams. Texas probably wouldn't change conferences alone, so we're looking at a minimum of 16 teams, possibly more. What I'd prefer: Texas, OU, and OSU (I don't see the OK schools splitting up) move to the Pac 12, making it a 15-team conference, with three divisions: Southwest Arizona Arizona State Oklahoma Oklahoma State Texas West Cal Colorado Stanford UCLA USC North Oregon Oregon State Utah Washington Washington State 8-game conference schedule. Play each of the other schools in your division (4 games) and two from each other division (2 games each). Championship game between the two division champs with the best conference record. One division gets left out. In case of a tie, the champions of the divisions with the best combined conference record (among all teams in that division) play for the conference championship. With four non-conference games to work with, Texas could always play a few old friends from close to home, like Tech and TCU, for example.
All the SEC did when they added MO and A&M was water their own conference down. Alabama and the SEC East has done all right by it, but no one else has. How great can some of these rivalries across the divisions be when don't even play but every few years? Same goes for the Pac 12. CU sucks. I guess Utah was a solid addition. Of course the Big 12 is not sustainable now but its not as bad as all that and before the realignment I would argue it was barely a cut below the SEC in most years. In short, the college football landscape was much better when conferences had a max of 12 teams, and the teams who bolted all cut off their own noses to spite their own faces. So no, aggy, the Longhorns should not follow you to the SEC. In fact, it would have been in your own best interest to stay in the Big 12 to remain our *****.
I like it, but I say bring Tech along, do 4 divisions with 4 each. Play 3 division games every year, 1 entire other division that you rotate every year, and 1 team from each of the remaining divisions that you rotate through every 4 years. 9 conference games.
Shoot, just ride the Big 12 until and if, a change needs to be made. I like the way it is now with the round robins in the main sports.
