According to the Miami Herald, unofficial election results show (R) Scott leading (D) Nelson by 0.14 percentage points or 12,562 votes in Fla. Senate race. That's a lot of hanging chads to make up. In the 2000 Presidential race the difference was only a few hundred votes.

Chuckie Schumer says he gives Nelson a "much greater than half a chance of winning reelection if all the votes are counted". I guess he's talking about counting all the illegal alien and ex-felon votes or something.

If the Dems sneak this one out, as they are want to do in these situations, Mitch McConnell should refuse to seat Nelson until the outcome is thoroughly investigated to his satisfaction. There is plenty of precedence for that.

We only have Broward's officials' word on that. With their past I'm not so sure I would believe them.

 

It's easy to excuse it by saying "oops! Honest mistake." There are such things as dishonest mistakes. We see it over and over again in the media, where the mistakes almost universally lean left. In many cases they aren't malicious - it's simply a situation where the journalist doesn't do his/her due diligence because they're pretty confident it's true - because in their mind, it fits the narrative.

Regardless, what does it matter? She's clearly screwed up the election process in a major way, and apparently has a track record. She needs to go.

I don't blame anybody for being suspicious of what's happening in Broward County. Snipes has done far more to justify suspicion than confidence based on what's happening in this election and what has happened in past elections. If I was Rick Scott, I'd be filing lawsuits too. Totally reasonable, and there's a judicial process to deal with the problem. We should let it play out.

What's bugging me is a the creation of a false narrative and diversion that cheating is a major factor in the GOP's overall defeat. I don't mind presuming funny business where the people involved are acting like they're committing funny business as Snipes is. However, we're talking about one county (albeit a big county) and two statewide races. Brenda Snipes didn't cost Martha McSally or Dean Heller their elections. She didn't cost John Culberson, Pete Sessions, Barbara Comstock, David Brat, and probably 30 - 35 more like them to lose their House seats. Furthermore, Snipes' incompetence and even possible election fraud isn't evidence of widespread incompetence and fraud in other parts of the country. It's an isolated issue. The big impact was a broader political realignment taking place that the GOP has to figure out a way to deal with, and focusing on one possibly crooked local official only inhibits figuring out how to deal with that much bigger problem.

Or counting provisional/mail in ballots with the incorrect date of birth. But a judge has now ordered it.

Nope

 

No way to know that sitting at our computers or smartphones. However, the candidates affected can bring suit and present their evidence. When we just assume it, we sound as stupid as the Democrats who whine that Republicans are trying to intimidate blacks from voting.

 

So recounts were completed in two of the heavy Democrat-controlled Florida Counties -- Broward and Hillsborough

The original counts will stand until they complete manual recounts, which they can better fanagle. Still it doesn't look like they're going to be able to make up 12,000 votes.

A Florida judge called the Florida election system the laughing stock of the world, and he's right. They've had since 2000 to fix it and they can't.

 

Truly amazing. Given the history of Broward and Miami-Dade, you would have thought they would have upgraded to fully electric systems after 18 years. They truly are the poster child of incompetence.

The lottery people certainly know how to keep current with all their data. And, despite the sometimes awesome amount of participants and big numbers involved, they know if someone won in a flash.

Why can't Florida Dems be this efficient?
There is only one answer -- it's because they dont want to be efficient. They always want to retain the ability to produce more votes whenever they are needed.

This is a very good point. Sloppiness allows for fraud. When you have a tight system that is automated and efficient, votes are totaled quickly and completely. The door isn't left cracked to let in extra ballots. Tighten up the process and then we can involve courts to make sure the counts is accurate.

 

For the most part I don't blame the media for this. They are indicators, not trendsetters. Most people who identify as Republican or Democrat have already made up their minds that if their side wins in Broward and/or Florida, it's legit, but if the other side wins in Broward and/or Florida, it's crooked. The media are putting out what the market demands.

 

Of course, when it looked like she would lose, Trump suggested that she lost because she distanced herself from him. Will he now have to say that she won because she distanced herself or that she didn't actually distance herself?

 

That’s the first thing they’ve got to fix. In order to ensure that little to no fraud takes place, like in Minnesot when “found” votes gave the Senate seat to Franken, they’ve got to know how many votes were cast.

They should know that x votes were cast in early voting and y votes were cast on Election Day. Then the number of paper ballots should add up to that number. I know it’s more complicated than that (mail in votes, provisional votes, etc.) but you’ve got to have a control figure so that when somebody finds a box of uncounted votes in the trunk of a car, as happened in the Franken election, you can better judge whether they’re legit or not.

Chain of custody has to be guaranteed too, just like evidence or drug tests or lots of other things. You can’t just use Rico’s Cut-Rate Hauling to transport the paper ballots.

It seems like it could be fixed easily in this computerized day and age if there was really a will to do so.

It was a rhetorical question. There really isn't a way to answer it without admitting that he was full of crap.

 

I disagree to some degree. From my perspective, Trump decided to throw his support into and risk his political capital on the Senate races. Many pundits at the time thought this was an odd choice. His strategy was questioned. But this is where and for whom he campaigned, and did with a remarkable schedule of well-attended rallies.

And it worked. The pundits were wrong again (big surprise). When the dust finally settles, the Rs will have added seats in the Senate. In terms of the historical average of first mid-terms by a new Presidents, his performance in the Senate was remarkable. Better than most at least since we've had a full 50 (or 57 for Obama supporters)

Trump, however, left the House to Paul Ryan. Ryan had a very large financial war chest and told Trump he would handle it. He failed. He was AWOL -- did anyone even see him anywhere during the 2018 House elections? Where In The Hell Was Paul Ryan? It seemed like he wanted to lose. He only spent money on races where the candidates agreed with his agenda. Many of those seats were lost. He did not spend any money on the House races of candidates who aligned themselves with the President. What odd behavior for a same-party House Speaker. He was acting like a bad trader - throwing money at losers while ignoring winners. Still, some of Trump's House folks overcame the lack of funding to win anyway. But how many more might have won if they had any financial support at all from Paul Ryan? Enough to hold? An event that would have prevented the huge clown show that is about to begin? We will never know.

It was a major cluster-fart. From the Republican side, this was THE story of this election (that + the many different ways Dems are trying to cheat voters). Bottom line, Ryan's long, drawn out (2 years+) withdrawal from the Speaker position has largely been a disaster for Rs. He hung on just long enough to make sure the Rs lost the House. We would have been much better served by someone smart enough to grasp what happened in the 2016 election and who would have aligned his/herself with the agenda of the voters.

 

This is ridiculous. Trump got involved in the Senate races because of where they were - Trump states. And that was a wise strategy. However, nobody is blaming him for blowing the House by not being involved enough or trusting it to someone else. That's just absurd.

People can argue that Paul Ryan should have done more, but this election was defined by something much bigger than anything Ryan did or arguably failed to do. Trump toxified the Republican brand in suburbs all over the United States. Trump didn't "start the fire," to quote Billy Joel. The brand has been repelling suburbanites for probably 15 years. But Trump repeatedly doused it with gasoline, and nothing Paul Ryan could have done would have changed that.

Frankly, the best thing Trump could have done to help in the House races would have been to close his Twitter account 18 months ago. That would have done more to save the House majority than anything else.
