What an incredible crowd last night, Del Conte is proving to be one of the best AD's in America and the changes he has made to game day atmosphere have been incredible. To make this on field and not in the stands the crowd absolutely affected Iowa State forcing a false start that led to missed fg and the energy of the crowd kept the team hyper focused. you tube will have a ton of uploads today of Dont Stop Believin and the light show that was put on. gave me chills.
I agree about the crowd. But I thought we were going to have less canned music - make it more about the bands.
A rock concert at DKR would be pretty cool. But, honestly, this was more fun IMHO. The Don’t Stop Believen sing along and light show was awesome, but so too was the Living on Prayer sign along a few minutes later. The PA had to turn off the music because the ball was back in play but the crowd sang the entire chorus nonetheless. It was incredible. But it started long before that. The place was lit up in a way I haven’t seen outside of rivalry games. The execution of the senior night introductions and coverage of that was very cool and probably set the stage. Massive kudos to GDC and the PA for creating a 4th quarter that everyone in attendance will remember. I hope that this sort of atmosphere becomes the new normal at DKR. Makes the cowbells and paddles look like, well, cowbells and paddles.
I think I'm in the minority here, but I actually enjoy the music piped in. It pumps me up, it seems to really pump the student section up, and then it's just got a ripple effect on the players and the rest of the crowd. I enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I still love hearing the band, but I think there's room for both.
We were so lucky to have been there last night. The atmosphere was incredible! Texas football is suddenly fun again from start to finish. There was even a well-played football game sandwiched in there, too. Great job all around!
What's even cooler was that it started with one young lady in the student section whom they were showing on the jumbotron. She got her phone out and put the flashlight on and all of a sudden the whole stadium was lit up.
We have a band? I sit across from them in Section 103 and if they ever start playing, the immediately get drowned out by Metallica or whatever else is blaring out of the end zone. This game and SC were an awesome experience as a whole, however. - Mile
102k in stands makes a difference. As for piped in music they mix it up with band and no advertisements so I am fine with the song alongs, last night they were awesome!
Light show and loud music To stimulate the crowd And generate some ecstatic behavior And a football game for those who enjoy them
What is up with the sound of the band. Are they feeding it through the speakers or something terrible delay
If you were a recruit in the stand, 2 things should have stood out. 1) Toughness: this team plays with an attitude. The way Sam brings it inspires the whole team. The way the OLine just keeps pushing and pushing, they are playing like this is a war and every inch on the battlefield has to be won. 2) These guys are having fun. Fans are having fun What a great atmosphere.
I was at USC and OU this year. This was an awesome good crowd, much better than what I was expecting. Way better than at the 2016 TCU game.
I was there too, and think it was a good mix, but probably only because it was band alumni night. I think the right amount, like tonight can help pump up the crowd, but all the time is too much. I'm sure the younger generation likes it. I still think the crowd can be even louder, and can't wait for it to be more closed in!
Please stop talking on the PA over the alumni band during halftime! I swear the dude talked over the entire performance.
I love that the players crew noticed, and tweeted, all season about the energy in the stadium. We have great fans, but I think Bevo Boulevard and the in - game experience has made it much more amped up from 2 hours before until after the fireworks/concert. Del Conte wins MVP in my book.
In TH's post game presser, he was not pleased that the A/V guys put the WVU/Okie Lite game on the Jumbotron during waarm ups. He was good natured about it but they are going to hear from him.
They put the oSu touchdown up, crowd went crazy, they took it off. Then they showed the last play live. We had no idea how Grier got them down the field in so little time, but we saw #4 knock down the pass. Herman can be as pissed as he wants, but that really energized the crowd, which proved to be a real problem for Iowa State.
I saw the football players really loving the "Don't stop believing" part....that makes it a WINNER IMO....
I actually saw Eagles there a few years back and it was definitely a scene. Typically the PA guy gets his halftime script from the band.
Was there a football game played there between the warmup act and the Eagles? Just kidding. Wasn't there a ZZTop concert there many years ago as well; didn't somebody cut out the center logo of the artificial turf, leading DeLoss Dodds swear to never allow a concert again in the stadium?
That's the story I've heard as well. One of the reasons that Eagles was such a big deal was that (allegedly) it was the first one since that incident.
ok, ZZTOP concert was Labor Day weekend of 1974.....not nearly enough WATER and BATHROOMS....then, when the crowd cleared, there was a HUGE STATE of TEXAS burned into the ASTROTURF that had to be replaced by the next weekend and the first game.....AL LUNDSTEDT was the Business Manager, then, DKR was the AD....well, AL stated, "that was the last concert we'll ever allow, here"....have there been any more???
