And he did in the first game. But the offense shot themselves in the foot over and over again, our running game was effing crap, Sam made some poorer choices in this game than the last, and the refs took care of the rest. That's a good recipe for a loss.
Watch Georgia win this game and we get stuck with the **** sandwich of losing to ou and going to a lower-tier bowl. And you can guess who they'll try to match us up against if they can possibly manage it...
I don’t like the design of the running game. Ou got gashed by quick backs with quick hitters. Our slow developing hand-offs pretending to be a zone read play doesn’t work unless you have bama’s o-line. The personnel seems more suited to a pistol formation with direct quick handoffs but that is just me. Sam is a good runner on called runs for him, but I don’t think he is suited to a zone read or option type qb
Just had to add, the pass play on 2nd and 25 right before half had to be the dumbest play of the game. A screen pass to LJ, maybe, but not something to the sidelines. You should never give an explosive offense an opportunity no matter how well your defense is playing. JMHO.
Am I the only one who gets tired of the ex-jocks making fun of Texas on the after the game show.? Today they are praising OU for a playoff and Murray for Heisman. A little homerism is ok on the LHN. That’s what you would get in OK.
Oklahoma's run defense sucks ***. It's just slightly less worse than their pass defense which is the worst in the country. No-name RBs from no-name programs have been running against the OU defense at will all season long. I think the guy from Kansas put up over 250 on them and averaged over 12 yards per carry in the process. There's no excuse for this Texas offensive performance against the worst defense of any power conference team.
Yes^^^. Our longest play for a TD all year did NOT exceed 50 yards. That will not win many championships in this day and age. Sam will improve his touch on the long ball or Rising may take his place. There will be competition, and that is always good. With our receivers you just shake your head that we are not more explosive. I also think the play calling must get more creative in this regard.
You'll see the offense open up and get more explosive next year. We were limited with Sam this year because like most true sophomores his ability to see the field isn't that good. However, he made great strides with his accuracy.
We lost folks it sucked we shot ourselves in the foot and killed drives. We are 9-4 and still have a chance at 10 wins. Lets pull it together and go win us a sugar or Alamo bowl
Agree Easy, no question officiating sucked and this is from an attendee, I didn't get to see all the tv replays but what they showed on video screen was some obvious lunacy on PI calls, but nonetheless we had chances enough to win. I'm proud of the team this year, my prayer now is CJ or LJ stay, one or both because we will miss those guys terribly.
I’ve been saying this all year. You can’t be an elite FBS team without a solid running game. That’s why Sam got nailed for a safety. You HAVE to be able to run when your back is to your own goal line. The lack of a cohesive running attack was our achililies heel all season. We often can’t muster 100 yds total rushing in a game....a pitiful statistic. With even an average running attack, we could have possibly been 13-0. If we get him, maybe the kid from IMG will make a difference. Nonetheless, I think we are turning the corner. CFP could be in play in 2020....2019 will still be a “building” year in my opinion.
Agreed. I thought that was huge. Herman seems to think play-to-play and not worry about the bigger picture. He needs a game strategist to help him.
I didn't get to watch the game since my son is playing an All-Star football tourney this weekend. Did Sam and Murray shake hands?
Against OU's defense, I get not giving up on 2nd and 25, but yeah, a shorter pass hoping for a catch & run might not have been bad. We ran a screen to Ingram on 3rd down and it got 14 yards. If that had been 2nd down, then we could have thrown for the 1st down with a decent shot at it.
No, Sam patted Kyler on the head and then proceeded to toss him up in the air and catch him three times. Despite himself, Kyler giggled, squealed and kicked his feet each time he dropped from the apex. Tough to fight that tummy jump feeling.
OU's defense is so bad it makes every RB look like Bo Jackson and every QB look like Joe Montana. Texas should have scored at least 40
LOL, reading this reminded me of how small little Ky Ky looked out there on the field. Seems what it would look like if Kevin Hart was their qb with the Rock as an O-lineman. He just looked so tiny. TV just doesn't do it justice like seeing it live.
Makes you wonder how many tall folks would volunteer to be 5'8" if they were guaranteed a multimillion dollar MLB contract like baby Ky Ky was. Nahhh, I think I'll stick with my 6'4"
It would help if the line didn't let pressure while rushing 3. If a team drops 8 in coverage and still gets pressure, it's damn tough to do much.
Should have, but OU D played with a chip on it's shoulder. Line didn't do what they needed to do, and Sam didn't see the field well the last 2 games. Duverney was running wide open down the middle when he threw into triple coverage to LJH. Not sure what was going on, but he wasn't seeing the field as well as he needed to. But it all starts up front. Line felt like the line from last year.
Sam has been hurt since the Baylor game and that is reflected in the offense lack of production. Shane should have played every game until the CCG.
The game set a record for attendance at a conference (any conference) championship game. With only 83,114 in attendance, that surprises me. Big 12 Championship game sets attendance record
Developing touch/accuracy on the long bomb, Reading defenses, not staring down receivers, and going through your progressions should be 90% of Sam's practice time work. If/when he can improve on these skills, he will lead us to the promised land. He's not that far away. He has the arm. He has the heart. Hard work pays off. He has the work ethic. It's up to TH and Beck to make this happen.
I have no doubt Sam will be a much better QB next season based on his progress from last season to now. We HAVE to get some speed at receiver. I love LJ and CJ, but while they are great at the 50/50 balls, they are rarely going to run away from anyone once they make the catch. Having a stretch receiver would also open up for opportunities for those two as well.
