Now these people are digging underneath the fence and dragging 8 month old babies through
And amazingly it is caught on camera.
    The sob factor is solid.
Anyone who falls for that ploy is welcome to take in 5 or 6 of the horde.

See why it's goofy to base one's border security and immigration policy on building a wall?

PEW did a huge poll of 27 nations on immigration

If you were wondering why you havent seen the results on NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, MSNBC, CNN; heard about it on NPR; or read about it in the NYT or WAPO, here is why ....

    NONE wanted more immigrants.
Not a single country in the poll.
    No one wants it.
Except, of course, the politicians who benefit from it (and new immigrants who want all their 3rd cousins in too).

"As the number of international migrants reaches new highs, people around the world show little appetite for more migration – both into and out of their countries, according to a Pew Research Center survey of 27 nations conducted in the spring of 2018.

Across the countries surveyed, a median of 45% say fewer or no immigrants should be allowed to move to their country, while 36% say they want about the same number of immigrants. Just 14% say their countries should allow more immigrants. (Those who said no immigrants should be allowed volunteered this response.)...."

Many worldwide oppose more migration – both into and out of their countries

With regard to the generally higher than average numbers for the US below, the primary reason is that the US has ~67M "recent immigrants" (more than any other nation on earth) who are already in the US and they want the rest of their extended family in via chain migration. Nonetheless, more Americans want no or at least less immigrants, than want more.

So, 68% of the U.S. wants immigration to stay at the same level or increase according to PEW. If that's true, as Ann Coulter says, "Adios America"!

Even at the current levels of immigration, the country is being reshaped forever. There are estimated to be 38.5 million immigrants in the U.S. right now or 12.5% of the total population. That's astounding!

Given the U.S. policy of chain migration, those percentages will only increase as the immigrants already here bring over more and more folks from the old country. Add to that a new batch of immigrants each year, legal and illegal (not much difference anymore) and, well, the writing is on the wall (no pun).

What percentage of Americans are immigrants today?

    I think this rings true

The "caravan," at least to date, has been effectively handled between the combined efforts of Trump, ICE, DHS and the DOD. The main idea being, as mentioned above multiple times, that most of them were kept from "setting foot on US soil." Now many of them have gone home.

It is not ideal an ideal situation. A complete overhaul of Immigration Laws is what should have happened. But Trump was unable to get anything past recalcitrant members/jackasses of his own party. So they did the best they could with what they had, including working closely with the Govt of Mexico.

There's probably a bit of a "Bradley effect" at play here. It's very politically incorrect to say you oppose immigration, and probably many who say they support more or the same actually don't.

So instead let's just let them walk across the border unfettered? To quote you, yeah, that makes sense...

It amazes me that people are so concerned about their image as to conceal their real beliefs to a poll taker.

If I'd have ever spoken with a Beto backer (instead of receiving 10-12 robo-texts) , I would have given them a clear statement of my feelings about Mr. O'Rourke's candidacy.

Just because walls can be tunneled underneath or climbed over doesn't mean to give up on them. The wall will deter most and the few who dig or climb will usually be caught because of the time involved (but not always).

The reality is, for now, the horde who are pushing their kids under the wall want them to get picked up by BP

IF we could ever get to the point we protect our border we would be able to send ANYONE back who entered illegally, even a child pushed through by an adult.
Once illegals understand there is no more catch and release and for sure NO benefit to entering illegally it will slow to a manageable trickle.

Nothing is perfect but I would take a significant decrease.

And we are just entering the new period of "climate refugees". We obviously haven't signed on to that idea but it's coming if a Dem has their say.

I still think the wall is a bad idea. A much better idea is mandating E-verify. I still can't understand why this is not a push by Trump. I love the restriction on handouts & benefits. Seems to me that if you couple that with a mandate on E-verify most of the illegal immigrants will pack it in.

There will still be a lot of green card illegal immigrants that let their time here expire (40-50%) that the wall won't do any good against. However, they are not usually criminals or welfare recipients so I'm not as concerned about them.

Ever if catch and release seems like a logical matter
but how would E verify solve the problem of the illeqal forcing an innocent child being forced under a scooped out tunnel?
This is a disgusting approach by leftitst

It means they are too easily circumvented to offset the cost to build and maintain. 2000+ mile walls haven't been effective since the Qin dynasty.

We don’t need any more manual laborers in an era of automation. What’s the cost of federal benefits for 10 million people who no longer are employbable?

The assumption in your statement is that those workers that previously earned $20+/hr will relocate to work a job in a field for pay by the basket or close to minimum wage to clean a hotel room. The data does not support that premise. Those automated out of jobs seldom relocate and wait for their jobs to return. They may take a step back to work a few jobs but never will you see them fill the farm worker roles.

If your concern is with migrant farm laborers, that can easily be addressed with a wall and a guest visa program. Everyone else stays out.

Compare and contrast Chuck Schumer's stance on illegal immigration in this clip from 2009 against what you hear today.

Chuck Schumer In 2009: ‘Illegal Immigration Is Wrong’ [VIDEO]

That's a reasonable man that I could agree with.

That's back before Democrats became left-wing globalists. Hillary Clinton said pretty much the same kinds of things back then. What happened to drive the party so far left?

There is no need for illegals to pick lettuce.
There is a visa program that allows UNLIMITED agri workers so we can know who is here and where they are.
These workers are NOT allowed to get welfare.

Of course that requires the employer to be responsible for the worker AND to make sure the working conditions are safe.
BUT if we would force companies to utilize H2A then the wall( in all its' forms)would stop the flow of welfare seeking hordes.

I lived in Laredo from 1970 - 1976 (junior high and high school). I also lived in Port Isabel from 1980 - 1982. I've visited both places many many times over the passing years and maintain contact with friends from those long ago times. And I will say I love South Texas. So I feel I have some real world knowledge of the culture and the problems. All that being said, it is obvious to me that the vast majority of immigrants from Mexico are uneducated and dirt poor. Combine that with how the Left preaches crime is a symptom of poverty (excluding white collar greed) and not exclusive to a certain race. So why do we wish to exacerbate the root of crime? That is what Trump should focus on and not insulting the Mexican people. Get to the essence of the problem. It just happens to be people from Mexico. They are not the problem. It is the TYPE of people from Mexico that is the problem. And the fact that we have laws and it is his job to enforce those laws (upholding the Constitution).
