Like the 15+ Republican candidates in 2016, the Dems will be falling over themselves to get into the race. My money is on an anti-establishment candidate to represent the Dems in 2020, at least one that positions themself that way. I hope it's not Bernie who plays into to "socialist" trope quite nicely for the opposition

My money is on Beto. Most of the energy in the Democratic party is coming from the ultra-left collectivist wing - “Free” college and healthcare, blame the wealthy and corporations, open borders, and identity politics. Beto is young, energetic, and represents all the extreme left positions that get the Dem base excited.

A Beto-Michelle ticket might just be in the works.

I guess Beto's ability to run a close race in deep red Texas is like catnip to the Democrat Party leaders.

As others have said, he promises free stuff for everybody (including everybody in Mexico and South and Central America that can get in here). Plus, he's a skateboard wizard with a potty mouth that appeals to the F-bombing younger voters.

He could be trouble, if he could get enough backing. He spent $70 million in Texas. He'll need about $7 billion for a national run.

The voters won’ recognize him since the national media calls him O’Rourke

My first instinct is that he will be completely destroyed in the primary. I think the Dems will do so much damage to him during that run that even if he wins the nomination, he's not surviving the general election. He did well in Texas in large part because he got out there as someone that people didn't know, in an area where people were still (for some stupid reason) mad at Ted Cruz for the whole Trump thing, and because he was generally disliked on top of that. I don't see him getting the same level of traction outside of California and New York.

I would rather they just run Hillary again.

They will kick him around in the primary, but they'll unify behind him in the general election. Any Democrat who is anything less than 100 percent loyal to the nominee will be absolutely savaged for helping reelect Trump. Can he win the general election? Yes. He'd probably flip Arizona. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania would be super close - again.

Joaquin Castro on Julián Castro --

"I'll speak on his behalf here. He's gonna run for president. How about that?"

Those odds seem pretty ridiculous. Harris and Warren have a negligible chance of winning the nomination and less chance of winning the general election. They are both arrogant and unlikable - Hillary Redux. Plus Warren made a complete clown of herself with the DNA testing. Only thing worse than being unlikable is to be a caricature. Beto would be a steal at those odds. Barring some total meltdown, he will very likely win the Dem nomination and be a very tough candidate. I would take those odds in a heartbeat.

Can't click that link at work but will try at home. It would be more fun if I could short the odds. I am more than happy to put up $1000 that Harris will not win the POTUS to win $100 back.

I expect Beto to win the nomination at this time. I don't know of any other Dem who has more popularity right now.

It will be very entertaining to hear what Trump comes up with for him.

It'll be interesting to see how that issue is treated in 2020. Obviously it was treated as very much of a low blow and deceitful in 2018, but that was when a Republican would have benefited from it. However, in 2020, it might end up being Castro deploying it, and he's a liberal Democrat, which obviously changes the dynamic for the media. I guess it'll depend on who they like better. If they like Castro better, they'll point out his "authenticity" and take it seriously. If they prefer Beta, they'll treat it like they did in 2018.

I don't know if these odds are at all useful, but I think it's funny that the choice between Hillary, Oprah, and the current sitting VP have even odds.

I dont think they will eat their own, at least not in public.

However, if they did start, it might be the greatest live event in the history of television. It would be like one of those all-star wrestling cage matches where they beat each other the heads with folding chairs until only one is left standing. My money would be on Rosie O'Donnell -- she is like a badger or Tasmanian Devil. I could easily see her rising up off the mat with someone's bloody body part in her mouth, minus a tooth or two, smiling.

During the primary, it'll get pretty nasty. There's no obvious front runner like in 2016, and they believe 2020 will be a pretty easy victory.

Today I saw a car with a Beto sticker on it, and, over the lower part of the sticker, was another sticker with the same font and layout, that said "TO BE =Continued=". Ugh, 2 more years of these suckers displaying how gullible they are. People just want someone to tell them what they want to hear, even if they know it's not true or meaningless. Or maybe it was a woman's car and she thinks he's dreamy. Either way, shallowness is evidently not a vice to a LOT of people.
