I actually kind of wish that had missed as long as we still won, because it's hard to dissuade most 20 year olds (or if the NBA is any indication, most 30 year olds) [or if the average pickup game is any indication, most 40 year olds]) from the idea that if a shot goes in, it means whatever you did leading up to it was right, but if the shot goes out, then whatever you did leading up to it was wrong.
And the way to beat a 2-3 zone is not with a ton of dribbling right into a double team just inside the 3 point line, where pulling up means a long 2, you aren't far enough out to draw a defender away from his spot, and you aren't far enough in to make both defenders collapse and leave the wing or corner open. But then since he stepped back for a 3 and hit a shot that probably goes in 10% of the time, he may think that's the way to beat a 2-3 next time, rather than the tried-and-true rule of breaking it apart by getting into the middle near the foul line (which worked almost every time we managed to get there, whether via dribble or pass).
