Never too early to scout LSU for next year's big game. Their best LB is declaring for the draft and foregoing his senior season ... Devin White Declares for 2019 NFL Draft, Will Skip Senior Season at LSU
Agree never to early to start scouting an opponent for next season.... nice detective work on that one. Best LSU LB foregoing Sr. year IS better for the Horns for next fall. Hopefully his backup is a RS Frosh or Soph., etc.
here is LSU's 12/31/18 depth chart. Patrick Queen is his back up ... looks like he will be a JR next year LSU Football Depth Chart
In case you were wondering, Patrick Queen was a 247 composite 4* when he committed for the 2017 recruiting cycle Patrick Queen, LSU, Outside Linebacker
White is supposedly a top 10 NFL draft pick. There will be some drop off. However, without doing a full eval, I expect its "next man up" defensively for LSU. The real question for them every year is whether they can score points. Starting QB returns, as does #1 receiving threat. Starting RB gone. The offensive line is probably the most significant but I don't know the status.
This will be what our early season pairings with USC and Notre Dame should have been these last couple of years : a vs. between two big name schools in the top 10. Like just about everybody else around here I have loved our early scheduling these past years and certainly hope it will continue. LSU is going to do what LSU does. They're a play defense, 60/40 run pass, physical team. We have the coaching and pieces in place on offense to move the ball on these guys. I think this one comes down to Todd Orlando and our overall team depth in what will be a rough and tough 3.5 hour battle.
Good to know the last couple of years have given us enough confidence to go ahead and look right on past our opening-day opponent. . . .
I didn't see Chaisson on that depth chart. Is he still around? I know he got hurt last year, but don't know any more than that.
I look forward to this opponent for many reasons. I know a lot of LSU alumns. They are similar to Georgia. We will have to play very solid defense to beat them but I am confident.
Agreed. We are going to very green on defense, too. I know some people will disagree, but I expect us to take a step back and be even worse on defense next season. The good thing is TO's defenses seem made more for this style of play. Unless their QB is a dual threat. IN which case...
Notice how LSU's starting DEs in their 3-4 defense weigh 297 and 317 lbs. Compared to the 4-3, a traditional 3-4 often fields DEs that are really more like quicker DTs. Big 12 play may call for one of the two 3-4 DEs to look more like a 4-3 DE (a smallish, fast, quick, pass-rusher), but LSU's 3-4 DE personnel are more typical.
It may help to have a bigger 3-4 DE package for facing any power running teams we might play, and a smaller 3-4 DE package for facing the Techs, OUs. OSUs, Baylors, etc. on the schedule. (Then again, there could be a 4-3 option Orlando could mix in there ...)
LSU coaches talk new offense ... Can Joe Brady save LSU's offense? New coach opens up on his vision -- and no more huddling
Myself, brothers, nephew, and Dad are getting our LSU game tickets. No way I am missing this game! I don't think a power run offense like that can hang with Texas not 2019 Texas, maybe 2017 and before but not anymore.
I've got about as much faith that Ed Orgeron will run a true spread offense as I have in Mack Brown letting Longo run his Air Raid.
Hate to break it to you but LSU is going to beat Texas pretty convincingly. While you shouldn't let this game get you down on the rest of your season you're definitely wearing orange tinted glasses if you think Texas is going to win this. Texas is green, good but green and it will show. The first half will be fairly competitive but by the end of the 3rd Quarter the calls to fire Herman will be deafening. Don't worry, by the time you play OU you'll be over this loss
Yea. LSU will probably beat us as bad as Georgia did. Longhorns were so green in the Sugar Bowl they didnt know what to do.
For the first time in ten years I can honestly say there's no game on the regular season schedule we "should" lose. Anyone expecting us to dominate like we did Georgia is in for a rude awakening. And no that's not being negative.
Welcome to HF... what motivated you to sign up and weigh in with so much logic and facts? So responding to your post: after turning our program around, howls from UT fans will be "deafening" to fire Herman - at the end of qtr. 3 vs. LSU? Seriously? I'll remember your profound prediction of a convincing Tigger win in Austin in Sept. My un-orange tinted glasses prediction is a tough game but the Horns prevail.
I am so elated to have these profound words of wisdom passed along from our new found coonass friend. I guess I'll go ahead and sell my season tickets, cancel my Fairmont reservation in Dallas, and start the search committee for a new HC. Anyone wanting to pass along recommendations for the job, can have Dion pass them on to me. I'll see you guys back in Memorial Stadium after the new coach beats a real team in Oklahoma rather than discussing some third or fourth place finisher in the "Who Can Finish Second to Alabama in the SEC West Derby"
