Honestly, I'm surprised that the White House doesn't provide the food. I really don't see why Trump should have to pay for it. These guys are guests of the President, not specifically guests of Donald Trump.

Having said that, he is a cheap ***. He could have at least catered burgers from a respectable burger place.

    Cold fast food? Bleh!

I read that the shutdown is effecting White House operational staff. I took that to mean there wasn't the staff to cook for 100 people.

Much ado about nothing but i've little doubt that Trump will somehow term this a business expense to get some sort of tax writeoff. If we know one thing already, charity means something vastly different to Trump than most of us.

Weird story. Not sure what Trump was thinking on this one. Not great optics but of course the typical overreaction from the liberal MSM.

How do y'all know that they (Clemson players) did not request that?

    Seriously, I don't care.

No White House chefs / kitchen staff so POTUS paid for it himself. Nice gesture, but agree the optics of fast food for this event don't look good.

One of those fast food restaurants should quickly put together a marketing campaign claiming they are fit for a White House feast

Congratulations to Clemson on a visit to the White House. I'd have been thrilled at that age and as a college student wouldn't have turned down a Big Mac.

I went to school at U of WA, we typically had higher standards than McDonald's. Now, nobody is turning down a free meal. I look forward to Donald Trump visiting Buckingham palace and getting served corndogs.

He’s served a lot of crow to media and libs over the past two years. Corn dogs probably sounds good relatively speaking.

If THIS isn't proof the MSM hates Trump so much they will find fault wherever they ca.
They even criticized Trump for saying he knew the team would not want salads made by First and Second Lady.
I think it was cool. To eat burgers on the WH FINE china with candlelabra and linens etc.
    That will be memorable.

This is becoming a bit of an overreaction by the media, but it's Trump.

It's not what I would have served the team, but so what. The players have these strict training table eating rules during the season and they get a break to pig-out on food they crave and eat in the off season. I suspect most of them enjoyed the break.

Hey media, let's MOVE ON to investigate something more important like the missing Rose Law Firm billing records or Hillary's 33,000 missing emails.

Burger King throwing shade at Trump who mistakenly used the word "hamberders" when promoting the Clemson visit to the WH.

I can imagine a scenario where this was all planned just to see the reaction it would get and Trump was personally paid big bucks for the McD and BK exposure. That would be genius.

Garbage junk food served on silver platters and WH china is still garbage.
Those guys can eat that stuff in the dorm.
At the least he could have catered a nice steak dinner.

The press and the left still would have complained about something. If he would have served them T-bone there would have been complaints on why it wasn't rib-eye. Do you think I'm making this up?

Del Frisco's, Morton's, et al have rib eyes, t-bones, strips, and filets on their menus. Having multiple platters of those and large bakers with all the trimmings rather than cold McD's and warmed over fries would have been a memorable meal at the WH.
All of the complaints I've seen are about the cheap food. If Trump had paid for steak like he did for burgers, doubt if there'd be much complaining from the media and the left.

Had he paid for steaks, etc., he would have been vilified for that because of "his" shutdown. It would be his lavishing these guys with steaks while government workers aren't being paid. Doesn't matter what he does or doesn't do. This whole thing is total BS.

Truth! Then again, Trump has put himself at the center of every story and absurdly embellishes the truth (when he tells the truth). It's his narcissism that brings on some of the ridicule.

Here is his tweet on the event. Even in congratulating Clemson he has a "LOOK AT ME" moment.

Steak dinners would have been paid for out of his pocket, not by taxpayers.
Govt workers are not paid from his so-called billions.
Doesn't matter what he does or doesn't do, some people will defend and justify it.
