It's a mercenary game now if it ever was.

Hurts isn't an accurate passer, but he is a lethal runner. He is a lot like Shawn Robinson at TCU, our pass defense will fool him into some stupid throws. I'm much less concerned about him than some of the other kids already in their system.

Heck, Rattler could win 8 for them next year. He's a player.

Still hoping Hurts goes to Fort Worth and Martell to Norman

That’s what I thought too, until he came in against Georgia.
    Looked pretty good.

You realize he could also lose 8 for them, he is also a freshmen.

Doesn't worry me a bit. He was surrounded by five star talent in Tuscaloosa and somehow found the bench. I like the kid, but his talent doesn't scare me

Riley knows QB's. Having coached the last to Heisman winners, I doubt if Rattler would lose 8 games over the course of the 3-4 years he will be at ou since after the 4 or so losses Riley would bench him for the next QB sensation.

OU has had a tremendous amount of success at the quarterback position in the last two years to a large degree because of steller offensive line play.

I think that they lose both guards to graduation and two junior tackles to early departure to the draft. If I am right, any quarterback should consider this.

Riley was very lucky with Mayfield and Murray. He got them as transfers, not out of HS. Let's see him really develop a QB out of HS.

    2003,

You can make an argument that Kingsbury improved Mayfield's skill set, but I have trouble thinking that anyone in Brazos County improved Kyler over what he was walking out of Allen HS.

My question is whether or not Riley is desperate enough to try put up with Martell's father.

I saw Rattler interviewed at the all star game and he didn't even do the horns down. Not a fit at ou.

    It's official:

Tide QB Hurts transferring to Oklahoma

He's a graduate transfer and is available to play immediately. Of course, OU is simultaneously blocking the transfer of Austin Kendall (also a graduate transfer) to West Virginia. Ruthless.

Mayfield was a walk on who played in 5 or 6 games as a true freshman. Kingsbury had next to nothing to do with his development. Murray struggled to say the least his 1 year as an aggie.

Mayfield improved exponentially before he got to OU. Kyler was a train wreck as a freshman. Lincoln didn't have to deal with transitioning those guys from HS. And now he gets a seasoned Hurts.

Ok. I looked up his stats at tech and they were better than I remembered. He played in 8 games. I'm unsure of the basis for exponentially. My understanding is he put up good numbers in HS.

My opinion is that Riley dodged a huge bullet by missing Martell and getting Hurts.

Riley was at ECU when Mallet came out HS. What's the connection?

Jeff George/Rhett Bomar syndrome, except I've been told Martell's situation is slightly different in that the kid isn't personally as bad as either of them.

I am not now, and never have been a fan of Manny Diaz, to the extent that I criticized Mack for the hire. This time, he has bitten off more than he can chew.

Ok maybe not "exponentially" but Mayfield wasnt a pee on waterboy that Riley molded into a star either.

Hurts has passing issues but is big and quick. Heard someone compare him to Marcus Allen when it comes to running ability. The game in Dallas just got more interesting. Wasn't scared of Rattler as a true freshman, but Hurts is similar to Kyler transferring to OU. Except more experienced and a proven winner.

In a pick your poison scenario, Mayfield, Murray or Hurts, it’s a no-brainer for me: Hurts.
