A friend turned me on to this. It's in Season 1 and just started in November so I binge watched the 8 episodes on Sunday. It stars Michael Douglas as Sandy Kominsky, an aging actor who had a very brief career 40 years ago and has been teaching acting classes ever since. Alan Arkin is his agent and best friend. Nancy Travis (yes, please) is his student and sometimes lover. It has many cameos, sometimes the actor plays themselves (Jay Leno, Patti LaBelle, Elliott Gould) and sometimes they are bit characters (Ann Margret, Danny DeVito as Sandy's proctologist was a hoot). Douglas and Arkin are both old dudes and constantly take shots at each other, so if you are an old guy like me, and you like old guy humor, you should check this out. I like it.

Thanks... I’m often looking for something good on Netflix.

The wife and I recently started Mr Robot because it has Rami Malek (who played Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody) so we wanted to give it a look. The ratings were really high so I was hopeful, but four episodes in and I had to bail out. Trial and error I suppose.

Don't give up on Mr. Robot yet...it's a Charlie Kaufman style show that you have to pay attention in detail. It's not a casual show.

OK but if I go back in I’m blaming you for any disappointment. :argue:

So last night I started in on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" on Amazon Prime. I must say it is lovingly done with all the late-50s sets and the cars and what-not. It's about a Jewish housewife who becomes a standup comic, and she is really blue for the 50s. She's already been arrested twice and I have only seen 2 episodes. I don't know if I like it enough to go the distance (episodes are an hour long) but it'll keep me busy until another episode of "The Kominsky Method" comes out. If nothing else, I will get lots of JAP inside dope, such as bleaching their pubic hairs so they appear to be "natural blondes". I had no idea that sort of thing was a thing.

So I am now about 4 episodes into the 2nd season of Mrs. Maisel. I do like the show but there is one thing that bugs the crap outta me about it - I really don't think people threw around f-bombs like that back in the 50s. Heck, I don't hear as much in public TODAY as they throw out in the show. Midge's mom, who practically fainted because she saw a naked man in an art class, throws out an f-bomb and a GD *in a synagogue*. It just doesn't ring true to me and reeks of young writers who have no clue. It's a shame because they have gone to so much trouble to make the sets and props and such so period-correct.

Is anyone else bothered by this, or is it just me?

I think you nailed it. I have turned some good shows off because of the absurd overuse of the f word. It just gets dumb.

Agree, agree, agree! Told one of my daughters the other day that in some show that I otherwise thought was good they talked like there was no other swear word available they used it so often. Disgusting.

This show would be so *precious* if not for all the f-bombs being thrown around. I wonder if the writers actually pondered this and thought they had to do that to get people to watch?

    How young are the writers?

Only 1 of the biographies on IMDB give birth date, and it is 1966, so all that young.

    OK, has anyone seen Bandersnatch?

It is weird genius. I have never seen anything like it.

If you watch it, have your remote handy. You will need to participate in the plot.
