I had really hoped Rising would go to a better program with a storied history, or at least a second tier program like UCLA or Washington.

I understand his reasons and wish him the very best.

Thank you, Mr Rising, for your contributions as a Longhorn, and best wishes for a great career, both in Utah and in the NFL.

If Chip Brown is the source of the bad information and the cause of Thompson’s angst, CDC or TH should really think about either banning him from access to the team and press conferences, or ignoring him if they are unable to ban him.

Again, if true, this guy will have hurt the Longhorns one too many times.

Utah is below a second tiered program? You might wanna rethink that. Good luck Rising but wish you'd stayed!!!

We're not the only school that affects. Heck, look at Kyle Allen (QB'ing an NFL team) and Kyler Murray (Heisman) who left A&M at the same exact time. Martell and the other Clemson kids are also showing what happens with these 5-star guys who don't start immediately and get bogged down.

I compare it to what Barnes did for one-and-dones at Texas. He made us a destination, but only in the sense that the destination would provide a "jumping point" to better things. NBA for the basketballers, and transferring to a starting position elsewhere for us.

Colt kind of turned us into this "stepping stone" destination for QBs. GJ Kinne and Jevan Snead were all-conference types where they ended up. GG had the tools but not the support of the rest of the team or fans, but his numbers were definitely better at SMU than what we were left with in Ash/McCoy/Swoopes.

I honestly believe that Rising thought he could challenge Buechele to be a starter, but didn't see the emergence of Ehlinger as an issue. Thompson was already in a back seat to Rising, so I'm not sure what his rationale was for coming to Austin. I don't see Johnson in the same mold as either of those guys. Kind of reminds me of the UH QBs (Ward and King) that Herman seems to prefer. If he is able to shirt, he will. Then start for 3 years, assuming we don't grab the next best guy.

Immediate playing time from what I can tell, maybe even the starting QB this fall.

I guess The key is to protect the QB, otherwise you can look like TCU did this year real quick.

He will be behind a RS Junior from Frisco who started the last part of 2018 due to an injury to the Senior QB.

Rising is a standard transfer, not grad transfer like Buechele will be, so has to sit out a transfer year. He wont even be eligible to play until 2020 and when he is eligible he will have 3 years left.

Looks to me like college football players need an option to turn pro sooner just like they can in college basketball. The idea that you recruit a 3 or 4 year starter is now officially highly problematic. Maybe that 3-4 year starter will turn pro after 2 years and your back-ups won't have to wait as long. But we definitely have a major hole now in the system as is catastrophically being illustrated at THE University of Texas.

The problems haven't started yet. Wait and see what the NCAA does to the ***** from Georgia that is transferring to Ohio State.

    1) Any reasonable human being would follow the money trail to determine if Urban Myth interfered or tampered with the kid. Can anyone blame Martell for transferring?

    2) When the NAACP. the reverend Jesse and Al Sharpton come calling, will the NCAA grab their ankles and allow anyone called a bad name to have unlimited transfer ability? I don't have the 25 years to wait for the NCAA to discover that some father paid $250 to some fan to yell at his kid and then file transfer papers the following Monday. The gutless wonders in Indianapolis better grow a pair in a hurry and get them really great fee counsel.

There's always a loophole somewhere it seems. It would really suck if it's as blatant as you describe. But that's the world we live in...

Great news, if true. I hope Tom plays this kid every chance and makes him the starter in a couple of years, if he earns it. I remember when Miami was turning out pro quarterbacks every two years. The model was to have a two year stagger with the “quarterback in waiting” as a backup for his first two years and then two as the starter, followed by the next one in waiting for two. Tom has a great chance to coach these guys up and do this with what he has now and with the kid coming in. Hopefully they can build a team around them.

I think that this transfer activity has potentially opened the door to meddling by coaches and boosters alike and there will be no limit to the dirty deeds by some of the more notorious programs. When the apparent quarterback trade deal that included the midget between the aggies and sooners happened a few years back it smelled like a backroom NFL trade deal by Cowboy JJ.

Early graduation with deferred redshirt status is going to lead to nothing good ecept free agent bidding in college football. And who is going to monitor all of the behind the scenes activity enticing graduate and non-graduate transfers to take a scond look at another school. Transfers should be dealt with by the athlete and his coach and not in some public portal, open to bidding. This could be the modern version of the recruiting scandals of the 70’s and my guess is it will get ugly while cheaters win and the powers that be sit on their hands.

Just my thoughts. Perhaps I am crazy; been called that a time or two.

The waiver, except in extreme cases, should be locked down.

Transfers should sit a year and lose that eligibility.

They have to sit out a year but don't lose the year unless it is in conference or did they change the rule? He redshirted this year.

Just sit out the year unless you happen to be a discontented freshman who believes he was wronged by the initial process!

New transfer rule will create a big headache for coaches, players, and the recruiting of key positions or a player who has paid his dues by sitting and developing only to have another player walk in to take his position. Even for future recruiting classes and potential players. Planning and thinking regarding recruiting will be altered by many.

I don't get how Justin Fields is immediately eligible. Also, best of luck to Casey Thompson with you guys.

After reading Martell quotes from that article, I bet he transfers again before he's done. What a piece of work ..

I have posted before that Martell suffers from Jeff George/Rhett Bomar Syndrome.
