Brilliant move by Herman. The guy is a quality coach, has great football knowledge, and comes from Texas HS coaching royalty. Let's hope it happens.

Thanks, Larry, for considering the position.

It tells me he has an open mind. A real egomaniac (which he has been accused of being) might not care to have another voice. But apparently he has the self-confidence to pursue the "right answer" no matter who gets the credit. That indicates a love for the program as opposed to himself.

He might be MENSA smart, but it's wisdom to accept counsel. It's a great move.

    Fedora with a visor.

If he stays in Austin, someone buy him a Stetson.

    Yeehaw!

Having grown up in Brazos and Grimes Counties, Larry has plenty of hats, all 100% beaver felt I’m sure.

It was a lot of talk that Beaty was coming but it was an issue with money owed by Kansas and him getting a new job basically the Charlie Strong Texas-USF contract situation all over again. Guess Herman got tired of waiting.

I seem to remember a few people wanting Fedora as our HC before we hired Herman.

Larry was one of my top three, but I knew Mike had the deal done with Herman.

FWIW, Mike Gundy was #2 on my list

I always felt like an analyst should have a PhD in statistics and a Master Black Belt in Six Sigma. I don't know why I'm the only one that thinks that way.

I do not know what happened to cause the RECENT dismal seasons at NC, but this man has some very good coaching credentials in his history. And he must be smart because he agrees with me on an aggressive attacking style of play. Maybe we would no longer drift into a state of semi-consciousness during the third quarter.

    This from Wiki.

"Under Fedora, Southern Miss notched the four most prolific offensive seasons in its 100-year football history. His players also graduated at a higher rate than at any time in school history."

"At NC he promised to implement an aggressive, attacking philosophy on both sides of the ball, with the same wide-open spread offense he implemented at Southern Miss and a blitz-heavy defense. He summed up his philosophy with a quote from George S. Patton—"Instead of waiting to see what might develop, attack constantly, vigorously and viciously. Never let up, never stop, always attack." He vowed that Tar Heel football would be known for "playing smart, playing fast, and playing physical."[

What happened at UNC (or UNCheat as they are known in the ACC) was the hangover from the overwhelming stupidity and corruption resulting from Butch Davis hiring John Blake. From the moment Larry set foot in Chapel Hill, he had the FBI, NC state police, NCAA, lawyers, and administrators, plus Nike interviewing his players, as well as leftover administrators from the Butch era. Negative recruiting, including the "they're going to get the death penalty" didn't help, nor did the perception that the school refused to protect the players.

Nike was all about protecting Nike and their "chosen school" with an eye to prevent discovery of the ACC's first "six figure recruit", who by the way was a dismal failure.

In essence, he took a great opportunity (UNC is the second best job in the ACC) without realizing that he was being sent into a burning building only after his administration soaked him in naphtha

Any idea what Fedora’s specific duties might be?

"Offensive analyst" (a page out of the Saban playbook)
And maybe a future play caller down the line?

Beaty will also be formally on staff soon, I think

Thanks Joe. That's good news on both fronts. It will be nice to have these guys with HC experience on the payroll. If TH loses a coach or needs to replace one, guys like this can make it a bumpless transfer.

This is amazing. To have this much fire-power (three head coaches including Herman) on the staff has got to be impressive to a recruit. The depth of knowledge is huge.

To most of us you are correct. To most 18-year-old males getting away from home and possibly finding a place in the NFL are the attractions.

Fedora was my first choice. He was Tennessee’s first choice as well, but he turned them down because he was committed to turning NC around. NC was the worst job in America and he straightened most of it out, only to be fired. Mack walks into a much better situation thanks to Fedora. (I believe Mack kept Fedora’s son on staff at NC) I would love to see his offense run at Texas with top players.
I seem to remember idiot Strong sending Wickline and Watson to NC to learn Fedora’s offense. I can see Fedora rolling on the floor laughing when those two nincompoops left his office with their notes.

He is a great hire, but I don’t see him here very long before he gets a job offer.
He can recruit Texas for sure and will hopefully get a lot of his scheme added to our offense. I would love to see him involved in play calling.
